Monaco vs Lyon prediction

Highly entertaining affair and definitely a game of the weekend in France is set to be played at the very beginning of French Ligue 1 round ten. Monaco will host Lyon in a derby game between two sides separated by only two points in the standings.

Three draws in a row for Monaco

Les Rouge et Blanc have had a difficult start to the season and the international break came just in the right time for Leonardo Jardim’s team. Monaco have notched three straight draws in all competitions and will be looking to break the duck on Friday night in derby game against Lyon. Monaco are having a lot of problems at their home turf this season with just two points from four games at Stade Louis II, which is the worst home record in Ligue 1 this season. Jardim’s charges are sitting in 10th position in the standings but there is only a two-point difference between the Friday rivals so Monaco will definitely look to cut the gap and leapfrog Lyon. Monaco have sold Martial during summer, but Jardim has a lot of young talents at his disposal in the likes of Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar and El Sharaawy who still need time to show their true worth.

Jardim will have some selection issues for Lyon game mostly with Adama Traore who picked a serious injury to his right ankle on Monday and will have go under the knife. Ricardo Carvalho and Andrea Raggi are banned, whereas Bernardo Silva, Nabil Dirar and Tiemoue Bakayoko are unlikely to feature having returned injured from international duty.

Lacazette to compensate for Fekir loss

Lyon are travelling to Monaco on the back of 1-0 home win over Reims before the international break. The game was decided by the solitary goal from Lacazette who netted three in seven games, but it was Fekir who stole the spotlight with his four goals in as many matches. Unfortunately, the French striker has been hit with a knee injury which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season, and it will be up to Lacazette to step up and help the team go forward. Hubert Fournier’s team has scored less than 2.5 goals in six of their last seven games in all competitions and efficiency is indeed an issue for the Lions this season, while numerous selection problems are another major cause for concern for les Gones head of the all-important clash with Monaco.

Rafael da Silva could return from a hamstring problem, but Clement Grenier, Nabil Fekir, Milan Bisevac, Mapou Yanga-Mwiba, Henri Bedimo and Bakary Kone are all out injured.

Monaco vs Lyon betting tip

Friday night brings a derby game at Stade Louis II with both sides looking to improve their records after the international break. Monaco will need to win if they want to get back in the title picture, but Lyon will be a stern test for Jardim’s boys. I expect a closely contested affair with not many goals and with a draw at sight.
