Lille vs Lyon prediction

Highy-flying Lyon will be aiming to record their fourth straight win in Ligue 1 when they square off against Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday evening. Les Dogues did well to hold title holders PSG to a goalless draw at the weekend, meaning that an interesting encounter is on the cards.

Four-game unbeaten run

Lille failed to impress in the first half of the season, but they have been producing much better showings in 2016. Following a 1-0 win over Caen les Dogues shared the spoils with the likes of Rennes and PSG in previous two league games and they are on a four-match unbeaten run in the national championship ahead of the visit of Lyon. Lille have been impressive at the back of late, but they obviously struggle in front of goal. Frederic Antonetti’s men sit in 13th place in the standings at the moment, but they will have to improve offensively if they are to book their place in European competitions. Les Dogues are tough to beat at home and you should bear in mind that the team suffered no more than one loss in previous seven home fixtures in the Ligue 1.

The likes of Eder, Marko Basa, Mounir Obbadi and Mike Maignan all miss the match with injury, but coach Frederic Antonetti has no other injury worries ahead of Sunday’s clash. January signing Morgan Amalfitano is pushing for a start.

Splendid form

Olympique Lyon have been in a thrilling form of late. Les Gones outplayed Bordeaux and Caen at their new stadium, while crushing top-table side Angers on the road in previous three league games. The team’s fresh confidence will be tested in Sunday’s game against Lille and a win over les Dogues would see the visitors climb to the Champions League berth in the Ligue 1 standings. Bruno Genesio’s men are likely to stick to their attacking style of play and seeing that they scored ten goals in last three league matches, there is every chance the visitors will find the net on Matchday 27. Antoine Lacazette has found his goal-scoring touch of late and all eyes will be on the team’s top scorer when the two sides square off against each other at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday. Lyon are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but the team impressed in the 3-0 win at Angers and they are certainly capable of picking up all three points from the clash against Lille.

The likes of Grenier, Kalulu, Rafael and Fekir are all sidelined with injury, but there are no suspended players in the away side. Sergi Dader is pushing for a start.

Quick Facts

  • Lille are on a five-game unbeaten run at the moment
  • Les Dogues scored exactly one goal in each of their previous five home fixtures
  • Lyon suffered four defeats in previous five away matches
  • Les Gones failed to score in two of their last three games on the road
  • Bruno Genesio’s men are eyeing their fourth straight league win

Lille vs Lyon betting tip

Lyon are superior to Lille at the moment, but considering that Stade Pierre-Mauroy will host Sunday’s Ligue 1 game, there is every chance we will see a close encounter this time out. Les Gones did score ten goals in previous three league matches, but given their poor away record, I do not believe that they will net more than one goal in Sunday’s game. Les Dogues are tough to beat at home and if we have in mind that under 2.5 goals were netted in Lille’s last two home fixtures, a low-scoring match is on the horizon.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
