Granada vs Espanyol prediction

Round 29 of the Primera Division will close on Monday night at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes, where Granada face Espanyol. The Nazaries could climb out of the red zone with a triumph, but the Periquitos hope to continue the undefeated run against their hosts.

Granada a point away from the safe zone

After back-to-back league triumphs against Deportivo and Sporting Gijon, Granada suffered a defeat at the hands of Betis in the previous round (2-0). Betis survived Juan Vargas’ dismissal in the opening minutes of the second half and with two late goals deepened Jose Gonzalez’ relegation worries. Still all is not loss, since Getafe also lost their game, so the Nazaries will cross the dotted line if they record a victory. It seems easier said than done, since the Andalusians are on a five-game winless run against the Catalans, but bear in mind that Espanyol lost nine of their last ten away matches. Granada have been having their ups and downs on home soil of late, but Isaac Success and El–Arabi have been rather productive in front of their own supporters, so I expect them to net a goal or two this time out.

Jose Gonzalez will have almost the entire team at disposal for the upcoming clash, since there are no players in the recovery room. The only player unavailable is Adalberto Penaranda, who is serving his suspension.

Espanyol five points away from the dotted line

Espanyol got back to winning ways with a triumph against Rayo Vallecano (2-1), thanks to a stunning late volley by Hernan Perez. The Paraguay international thus became the team’s leading goal scorer, alongside Felipe Caicedo. With this triumph los Periquitos secured a five-point cushion between them and the danger zone. Now Constantine Galca’s charges travel to Granada hoping to further their undefeated run against the Andalusians. Their previous two visits were very successful, and the fans would be more than happy if history repeated, but a point could be considered as a good result, since the gap between them would remain intact. Espanyol’s away form is not something to brag about, but they did manage to arrest the nine-game losing streak with a remarkable triumph against Sporting Gijon (4-2), with a miraculous play and a brace by Gerard Moreno. If the forward repeats his performance, Granada’s defense, who managed to keep their net intact just twice in their last thirteen home matches, will have a difficult task to defend their goal.

Constantin Galca will be without the likes of Canas (toe), Arbilla (Achiles tendonitis), and Sylla (thigh), who are all sidelined due to injuries, while Victor Sanchez is suspended.

Quick Facts

  • Granada are on a five-game winless run against Espanyol
  • The Nazaries have been blowing hot and cold on home soil of late
  • The Preiquitos saw one triumph in their last ten league fixtures on the road
  • Jose Gonzales’ men failed to score in just two of their last ten home matches
  • Both teams scored in their last three encounters

Granada vs Espanyol betting tip

The fans will wintess a heavy battle on Monday night, since both teams are in need of points, Granada to leap over the dotted line, Espanyol to stay in the safe zone. The Nazaries have been delivering goals on home soil of late, as well as the Preiquitos on their travels, so I expect both teams will continue scoring this time out.

Tip: Both teams to score – Yes
Odds: 1.91 (10/11) @bet365
