Head to head record

Atletico Madrid vs Astana 4-0 (2015/2016 Champions League)

Astana vs Atletico Madrid prediction

Atletico Madrid will be looking to cement top position in Group C with yet another win over rock-bottom Astana side. Los Rojiblancos are regarded as hot favourites to win Tuesday’s Champions League clash, but Diego Simeone’s troops will have to prove their worth on the field.

Domestic title – the priority

Astana have been struggling in the Champions League group stages this term. The Kazakhstan champions have picked up only one point from possible nine and they are unlikely to book their place in the knockout stages. The team could still secure their spot in the Europa League last 32, but they certainly face an uphill task in Tuesday’s clash against Atletico Madrid. Astana were totally outplayed by the Spanish side at Estadio Vicente Calderon (0-4), but it has to be noted that coach Stanimir Stoilov rested his key players for the Kazakhstan Premier League derby against Kairat. His decision proved fruitful as Astana defeated their bitter rivals at Ortaliq Stadion. Stanimir Stoilov’s men are on the right track to win the domestic trophy, but seeing that they have yet to meet their goal, I would not be surprised if he decides to mix the squad against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening.

Patrick Twumasi misses the match through suspension, but coach Stanimir Stoilov has no fresh injury worries ahead of the Atletico Madrid game. Kabananga is likely to be deployed up front as a lone striker.

Routine win over Astana in Madrid

Atletico Madrid quickly recovered from a shocking 2-1 loss to Benfica. The la Liga side crushed Astana 4-0 in Madrid and, as a result, los Rojiblancos climbed to top position in Group C. Diego Simeone’s men want to get their job done in the Champions League group stages as soon as possible and, no doubt, the last season’s quarterfinalists will adopt an attack-minded approach in Tuesday’s match against Astana. Despite the fact that Diego Simeone fielded the best possible side against Deportivo La Coruna, Atletico Madrid dropped two points in Friday’s la Liga match against the Galician team and the capital club surely want to return to winning ways. Antoine Griezmann failed to score in the 1-1 draw with Deportivo, but his form in the 2015/2016 campaign is more than fine and the French forward will surely pose a big threat for the hosts. You should have in mind that los Rojiblancos recorded a 2-0 over Galatasaray at Turk Telekom Arena in their first away fixture in the process.

Luciano Vietto and Angel Correa are both sidelined with injury, but coach Diego Simeone has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Kazakhstan. Fernando Torres is likely to be recalled to the starting XI, meaning that summer signing Jackson Martinez should start the match from the bench this time out.

Astana vs Atletico Madrid betting tip

Atletico Madrid have been in a fine form of late. The Spanish side look solid at the back and seeing that Astana are focused on the national championship, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors in this one. Diego Simeone can count on all of his key players for the Astana game and there is every chance the Spaniards will record yet another victory over Stanimir Stoilov’s troops. When the two sides met at Estadio Vicente Calderon in the reverse fixture Atletico Madrid had 23 goal attempts (11 on target).
