Liverpool vs Stoke City prediction

Liverpool will be keen on defending their slim lead in the Capital One Cup semi-final against Stoke City when the two sides take on each other at Anfield on Tuesday evening. The Reds aim to build on a thrilling win at Norwich City, but the Potters should not be written off just yet.

Reds with one foot in the final

Thanks to Jordan Ibe’s goal Liverpool recorded a 1-0 win over Stoke City in the Capital One Cup semi-final, first leg. The Reds moved one step closer to making it to the final of the competition, but they can’t afford any complacency in the return leg. Jurgen Klopp’s men are high on confidence ahead of the return leg as they head into the match following a 5-4 win over Norwich City. Liverpool showed character in the Carrow Road clash as they came from two goals behind to beat the Canaries on day 23 of the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign. Roberto Firmino produced yet another thrilling performance for the Anfield outfit and the Brazilian forward will certainly give 100% to extend his goal-scoring run when Liverpool take on Stoke City in the League Cup game on Tuesday evening.

Philippe Coutinho, Joe Gomez, Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi remain in the recovery room, but Jurgen Klopp has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Stoke City.

Special: Liverpool to Win is 7/1

Uphill task for Potters

Stoke City need to overcome a one-goal deficit in the tie against Liverpool if they are to make it to the Capital One Cup final. The Potters face a difficult task in Tuesday’s clash at Anfield, but the fact that the Reds have been struggling at the back of late is giving Mark Hughes’ men a reason for optimism ahead of the return leg. Stoke City suffered a 3-0 loss to title-chasing Leicester City at the weekend, but despite losing to Claudio Ranieri’s men at King Power Stadium the Potters remained in the top half of the Premier League table. Mark Hughes’ team are after their third ever Capital One Cup final, but beating Liverpool at Anfield is easier said than done. The good news for the fans is that Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri has overcome his injury and, no doubt, he will be the man to watch in the away side in Tuesday’s game.

Shay Given and Geoff Cameron are both injured, but Marko Arnautovic should recover in time to face Liverpool. Aforementioned midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri returns to the starting line-up after missing the first leg with injury.

Quick Facts

  • Liverpool are eyeing their 12th League Cup final
  • Reds scored eight goals in previous two games
  • Jurgen Klopp’s team are undefeated in previous six home games in League Cup
  • Stoke City are on a five-game winning run on the road in League Cup
  • Potters are after their first ever win over Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool vs Stoke betting tip

Liverpool are unlikely to win the Premier League title, meaning that they will give their best to lift the Capital One Cup trophy. The Reds scored a vital away goal in the first leg and there is every chance they will find the net in the return leg. However, seeing that the team experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the 5-4 win over Norwich City, I would not be surprised if the Potters score in the Anfield clash as well. Taking everything into account, both teams to score bet should be considered.

Tip: Both teams to score

Odds: 2.00 (1/1) @bet365
