Borussia Dortmund vs Hannover prediction

Having dropped two points in Saturday’s game against Hertha in Berlin, Borussia Dortmund will be looking to stay in the race for the Bundesliga title with a win over Hannover, whose top flight status is in danger ahead of Matchday 21.

Fine performance in German Cup

Borussia Dortmund outplayed Borussia M’gladbach in their first game of the new year and, as expected, the Millionaires recorded a 2-0 win over Ingolstadt on Matchday 19. However, despite creating several clear-cut chances to score against Hertha at the weekend, Thomas Tuchel’s troops eventually played out a goalless draw with the capital club at Olympiastadion. Borussia Dortmund are eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, meaning that this has to go down as a must-win match for the hosts. The Millionaires recorded a routine win over Stuttgart in the German Cup on Tuesday evening and they will be looking to build on the display when they host Hannover at their Signal-Iduna-Park. Borussia trio Reus – Aubameyang – Mkhitaryan proved its worth in the 3-1 win over Stuttgart and they are likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders on Saturday afternoon. Aubameyang has netted no less than 30 goals in all competitions this season.

Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender are both sidelined with injury, Coach Thomas Tuchel is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Stuttgart in midweek. Gonzalo Castro, though, is pushing for a start.

Alarming situation at HDI-Arena

Hannover badly needed a win against Mainz at the weekend, but they failed to grab something from the match. As a result, die Roten remained in ultimate position in the Bundesliga standings and it has to be noted that they are on a six-match losing run in the national championship ahead of the trip to Dortmund. With Borussia next, the rock-bottom side are unlikely to return to winning ways on Saturday and, no doubt, the visitors will be more than happy with one point from the game. Hannover attackers have been firing blanks of late and you should bear in mind that the team failed to score in four of their last five league games. Portuguese attacker Hugo Almeida is not as sharp as he used to be in the past, but he is widely expected to lead the line for the visitors against Borussia Dortmund. Almeida scored a wonder goal against Darmstadt last month, but I do not believe that the opposition defenders will find it hard to contain the former Werder Bremen ace.

The likes of Hiroshi Kiyotake, Leon Andreasen, Charlison Benschop, Marius Wolf and Felix Klaus all miss the game with injury. Salif Sane was on international duty with Senegal in midweek and he is unlikely to be risked.

Quick Facts

  • Borussia Dortmund are eyeing their sixth consecutive win at home
  • Millionaires scored 18 goals in previous five matches at Signal-Iduna-Park
  • Thomas Tuchel’s troops failed to keep a clean sheet five of their last six home games
  • Hannover are on a six-match losing run in Bundesliga
  • Die Roten failed to score in last three away games in the national championship

Borussia Dortmund vs Hannover betting tip

David faces Goliath at Signal-Iduna-Park. The Millionaires have no other choice but to go all guns blazing at their rivals and seeing that Thomas Tuchel can count on all of his first-team regulars for Saturday’s Bundesliga game, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts this time out. Hannover are running down a blind alley and they are unlikely to claim a major scalp on Matchday 21.

Tip: Over 3.5 goals
