Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike has picked up an injury in the build-up to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.
Having started the qualifying campaign with a win over Chad, the 2013 AFCON champions will want to extend the winning run in the 4 September qualifier before facing Niger in international friendly four days later.
And there were concerns that star player Emmanuel Emenike may miss the Tanzania clash through injury, but the latest reports suggest the problem is not too serious.
“Emenike is not injured as such, he just has some pains on his leg muscle and the club don’t want to risk him to play with the pains on Friday,” a source close to the player told African Football.
“It is not something to worry about, just a precautionary measure by his team doctor and the coach as he will be ready for the Tanzania game. He will resume training after three, four days’ rest.”
The Fenerbahce striker, who is currently on loan with Al Ain, has so far bagged 16 goals in 35 appearances for the national team and no doubt new coach Sunday Oliseh will heavily rely on his services in years to come.
The new boss recently announced provisional Nigeria squad for the match vs Tanzania, and he later added that 18 foreign-based players will be joined by another five from the 23-man list consisting entirely of ‘home boys’.
Heartland FC duo David Obiazor (0/0) and Nelson Ogbonnaya (0/0) have been ruled out through injury earlier this week.
