Turkey vs Montenegro Team News

The likes of Hasan Ali Kaldirim, Ersan Gulum and Hebei China did not make Turkey Euro 2016 squad, but Eskisehirspor goalkeeper Ali Sasal has received a call-up. Nuri Sahin, Arda Turan and Burak Yilmaz all missed the England friendly, but they are all likely to return for Sunday’s game against Montenegro. Emre Mor and Harun Tekin could make their Turkey debut against Montenegro.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Experienced attacker Mirko Vucinic returns to the squad after overcoming his injury and he will be the man to watch in the away team. Serie A star Stevan Jovetic made the squad as well, but Vladimir Boljevic misses the Turkey game with injury. Stefan Savic is out of contention due to club commitments. Coach Ljubisa Tumbakovic has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Antalya.

Injured: Vladimir Boljevic (8/0)

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Quick Facts

  • Turkey and Montenegro meet for the first time ever on the international stage
  • Turks are on a seven-game unbeaten run at home
  • Arda Turan could earn his 82nd cap for Turkey against Montenegro
  • Mirko Vucinic has netted 14 goals for Montenegro national team so far
  • Montenegro are on a three-match losing run on the road

Turkey vs Montenegro Prediction

Considering that Turkey coach Fatih Terim welcomes key players back to the squad, there is every chance the hosts will find the net in Sunday’s friendly in Antalya. The Turks are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but Montenegro coach has a number of high-profile attackers to choose from and I would not be surprised if the hosts fail to keep a clean sheet in the Antalya 100. yil Stadyumu clash.

Betting Pick: Both teams to score

Reigning champions Spain are the headliners in Group D that appears to be the most evenly matched at the Euro 2016 finals. La Furia Roja are no longer as impressive as they used to be, while both Turkey and Czech Republic have shown a great deal of potential of late. And while Croatia are not in the best possible shape at the moment, they’ve got plenty of individual talent, meaning they should not be written off. All things considered, expect plenty of fireworks in most Group D games.

Spain

Spain national team have been on a major downtrend since lifting the Euro 2016 trophy and they crashed out in group stage at the 2014 World Cup finals. Despite not exactly impressing, La Furia Roja won the first place in a very strong qualifying group and they are rightly considered the favourites to progress from Group D. Vicente Del Bosque has plenty of dilemmas with regards to the preferred starting line-up, but his decision to omit Diego Costa could prove spot on as the Chelsea star have always struggled playing for the national team, while Alvaro Morata could shine in his absence. Chances are that Spain will not ease off to the top place in Group D, but we do expect them to finish top of the group.

Prediction: Spain to finish in 1st place
Betting Odds: 1.62 (5/8) @Ladbrokes

Turkey

Turkey tend to struggle in the qualifying campaigns, but they usually save their best performances for the tournament finals, which is definitely a great quality. Milli Takim were far from impressive in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, but then hammered Netherlands 3-0 when it mattered the most, while also defeating Czech Republic and Iceland. Fatih Terim has got quite a few high-quality footballers at his disposal and taking also into account the passion with which Turkey players perform for the national team, we expect this to be yet another successful tournament for Milli Takim. If everything else fails, the individual quality of Arda Turan, Hakan Calhanoglu and Oguzhan Ozyakup should prevail.

Prediction: Turkey to finish in 2nd place
Betting Odds: 4.00 (3/1) @Betfair

Czech Republic

Czech Republic surprised everyone by finishing above Iceland, Turkey and Netherlands in their qualifying group, but they will have a tough time repeating the result at the tournament finals. But, even though they do not exactly have star players apart from Petr Cech and fit-again Tomas Rosicky, the Czechs are a strong team unit and they are able to surprise some of the top sides on their day. Having said that, we don’t think they have what it takes to match Spain or Turkey at the Euro 2016 finals, but we believe they can pip Croatia to the third place in the group, although that may not prove enough for a place in the knockout phase.

Prediction: Czech Republic to finish in 3rd place
Betting Odds: 3.00 (2/1) @Ladbrokes

Croatia

Croatia have experienced all sorts of problems since Slaven Bilic left the post, which is not that surprising considering that his successors were not able to keep the excellent dressing room atmosphere or prevent national team bosses from meddling into team affairs. The fans have also turned their back on Vatreni after the controversial appointment of Ante Cacic, who has banished key defender Dejan Lovren from the squad despite the fact that his side face serious problems at the back. And even though Croatia boasts plenty of individual quality and players like Modric, Rakitic, Perisic and Mandzukic, the poor team spirit and lack of leadership from the bench are likely to prove their undoing.

Prediction: Croatia to finish in 4th place
Betting Odds: 6.00 (5/1) @BetVictor

Turkey national coach Fatih Terim has unveiled an extended list of 31 names for the forthcoming Euro 2016 finals. The ‘Imparator’ will cut his provisional list after the friendly against Montenegro scheduled for 29th May.

Three weeks ahead of the Euro 2016 kick off, the Turkey boss has unveiled a preliminary list of players with 31 names.

Milli Takim is set to start preparations for the tournament finals with friendly games against England, Montenegro and Slovenia, and the head coach wants to take another look at his players before naming the final 23-man squad.

Terim has droped Fenerbahce defender Hasan Ali Kaldirim, as well as Ersan Gulum from Hebei China, while Eskisehirspor goalkeper Ali Sasal made it to the provisional squad.

Star players Arda Turan (Barcelona), Nuri Sahin (Borussia Dortmund) and Burak Yilmaz (Bejing Guoan) are set to miss first warm-up game against England due to club commitments.

After mising the Euro 2012 finals, Turkey qualified for the tournament in France as the best third-placed team, taking 18 points from ten games against Czech Republic, Iceland, Netherlands, Kazahstan and Latvia.

Provisional Turkey Euro 2016 squad:

Goalkeepers: Volkan Babacan (Basaksehir), Onur Kivrak (Trabzonspor), Harun Tekin (Bursaspor), Ali Sasal (Eskisehirspor);

Defenders: Gokhan Gonul (Fenerbahce), Sener Ozbayarakli (Fenerbahce), Caner Erkin (Fenerbahce), Ismail Koybasi (Besiktas), Sedar Aziz (Bursaspor), Semih Kaya (Galatasaray), Caglar Soyuncu (Altinordu), Ahmet Calik (Genclerbirligi), Hakan Balta (Galatasaray), Mehmet Topal (Fenerbahce);

Midfielders: Selcuk Inan (Galatasaray), Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen), Nuri Sahin (Borussia Dortmund), Mahmut Tekdemir (Basaksehir), Ozan Tufan (Fenerbahce), Olcay Sahan (Besiktas), Alper Potuk (Fenerbahce), Volkan Sen (Fenerbahçe), Arda Turan (Barcelona), Oguzhan Ozyakup (Besiktas), Yasin Oztekin (Galatasaray), Emre Mor (FC Nordsjælland), Gokhan Tore (Besiktas), Yunus Malli (Mainz);

Forwards: Cenk Tosun (Besiktas), Burak Yılmaz (Bejing Guoan), Mevlut Erdinc (Guingamp).

Road to Euro 2016

Turkey had been placed in one of the toughest groups in the Euro 2016 qualifying, and they eventually did well to secure an automatic qualifying berth. Milli Takim had a largely disappointing start to the campaign, suffering back to back losses to Iceland and Czech Republic before sharing spoils with Latvia, but the 4-0 friendly defeat to Brazil appears to have served as a genuine wake-up call seeing that Turkey haven’t lost a single game since (W10 D3).

Despite showing some improvement, Milli Takim were in all sorts of problems after yet another draw with Latvia, as they needed a win over Netherlands to remain in contention for a place at the Euro 2016. Turkey then produced one of their best performances in recent years to hammer Oranje 3-0, before going on to defeat Czech Republic and Iceland as well, making sure they qualified as the most successful third-placed side.

Style of Play

Similar to many other teams due to appear at the European Championships finals in France, Turkey tend to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, although the lack of tactical discipline means they will often lose shape and be forced to improvise on the pitch. While Fatih ‘The Emperor’ Terim enjoys huge respect in the country, he is often criticised for relying too much on individual talent of his players and failing to create a viable style of play where each player would know exactly what he needs to do.

Even if this is not exactly the perfect scenario, the players appear to have gotten used to such an approach and they usually perform at a very high level when playing for the national team. It is this passion and never-say-die attitude that have helped Milli Takim in recent years and they could definitely give them the extra edge at the Euro 2016 finals in France.

It has to be noted that Turkey impressed in each of their last three appearances at major competitions, reaching the semi-finals at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2008, while crashing out in the quarter-finals at the Euro 2000. Milli Takim tend to play with a great deal of confidence even when things are not going according to plan, and they have become real masters of producing great comebacks after conceding the first goal.

Attacking midfielders Arda Turan, Oguzhan Ozyakup and Hakan Calhanoglu, together with the impressive Selcuk Inan have got bags of quality and their individual talent can prove a major asset in France. Cenk Tosun has taken over from Burak Yilmaz as the starting centre forward despite the fact that he struggles for playing time at Besiktas, and the brace in the friendly win over Sweden will do wonders for his confidence.

Turkey head to the Euro 2016 in excellent spirits, having won 10 of last 13 fixtures (D3), but their attack-minded style of play could leave them exposed against what are very strong teams in Group D. Full-backs Gokhan Gonul and Caner Erkin both leave a lot of space behind when going forward, while it appears Fatih Terim still hasn’t found the preferred centre-back pairing. And with Volkan Babacan not exactly a perfect replacement for Volkan Demirel, don’t expect Milli Takim to keep too many clean sheets in France.

Strong Points

  • Formidable midfield
  • Individual quality
  • Never-say-die attitude
  • Tend to impress at major competitions
  • Masters of great comebacks

Weak Spots

  • Susceptible to counter-attacks
  • Shaky back line
  • Goalkeeper position
  • Lack of tactical discipline

Euro 2016: Turkey Preview, Predictions & Betting Odds

Prediction

Granted, Turkey have been placed in a seemingly difficult group, but it is important to note that none of the three opponents they are set to face in France have been impressive of late. While Spain are desperately trying to return to old glory days, both Croatia and Czech Republic have plenty of weak spots and that is something that Fatih Terim’s side should be able to exploit.

Milli Takim can be very dangerous up front and is likely to dominate possession thanks to an impressive midfield department, while their incredible drive when playing for the national team can prove all the difference. Turkey have done really well at major competitions of late and even though their back line is not exactly in the best possible shape, Fatih Terim’s charges should have enough quality and experience to at least get past the group stage.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Barcelona prediction

Out-of-sorts Barcelona will be looking to rose from the dead when they take on Deportivo La Coruna at Estadio Municipal de Riazor on Wednesday evening. Barca face a must-win situation on Matchday 34 and it remains to be seen if the defending champions are capable of putting an end to their three-game losing run in La Liga.

Deportivo likely to meet the goal

Thanks to a 2-2 draw with Barcelona Deportivo La Coruna secure the top flight survival on the last day of the 2014/2015 La Liga campaign. Many people expected that the Galicians would struggle in the national championship this season, but they are on the right track to prove the doubters wrong. Depor sit in 13th place in the standings ahead of Matchday 34 and seeing that they are nine points clear of the relegation zone, there is every chance the Galician outfit will play in the Spanish elite division next season. Victor Sanchez’s men did well to grab one point from Sunday’s game against Sevilla at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but Wednesday’s clash against star-studded Barca will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts.

Important midfielder Fede Cartabia has overcome his injury, while Alejandro Arribas has yet to serve his ban. Lopo misses the match through suspension as well, while Luis Alberto is a major doubt.

Three-game losing run

Barcelona were regarded as the best team in the world just few weeks ago, but, all of the sudden, the Catalan giants suffered a dip in form. The defending champions have been struggling in La Liga of late and they have yet to recover from the loss to Real Madrid in “El Clasico”. Luis Enrique’s men suffered a 2-1 loss to Valencia at their Camp Nou at the weekend, with the team extending their losing run in the league to three matches. Barca suffered elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals as well and, no doubt, coach Luis Enrique is under big pressure ahead of the trip to Galicia. The good news for the fans is that key attacker Leo Messi put an end to his goalless run at the weekend and the “Argentine magician” will be looking to add more goals to his account when Barca take on Depor at “Riazor” on Wednesday evening.

Arda Turan could miss the game through illness, while Gerard Pique is definitely out of contention through suspension. Jeremy Mathieu has yet to overcome his injury, while Dani Alves could return to the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Deportivo La Coruna scored 1+ goals in each of their last four league games
  • Depor failed to keep a clean sheet in last 18 matches in La Liga
  • Barcelona failed to score in two of their last three games
  • Barca are undefeated in last 11 meetings with Deportivo
  • Luis Enrique’s troops scored eight goals in last three encounters against Depor

Deportivo La Coruna vs Barcelona betting tip

Barcelona have no other choice but to go all-out attack against Deportivo La Coruna. Barca “helped’ Depor secure the top flight survival last season, but this time out Luis Enrique’s men will take the clash against the Galician side very seriously and I am tempted to put my money on the reigning champions, who are desperate to put an end to their three-game losing run in La Liga.

Tip: Barcelona/Barcelona

Barcelona vs Valencia 7-0 (2015/2016 Copa del Rey)
Valencia vs Barcelona 1-1 (2015/2016 La Liga)
Barcelona vs Valencia 2-0 (2014/2015 La Liga)
Valencia vs Barcelona 0-1 (2014/2015 La Liga)

Barcelona vs Valencia prediction

All eyes will be on Camp Nou when Barcelona and Valencia face each other for the fourth time this season. Barca aim to retain top position in the La Liga standings, but los Che are brimming with confidence following a 2-1 win over Sevilla.

Barca’s Champions League dream over

Barcelona suffered a dip in form and that is more than obvious. The Catalan giants recorded only one win in last five matches in all competitions and, as a result, Atletico Madrid managed to melt their advantage in the La Liga standings to just three points. Luis Enrique’s troops failed to score in previous two games and they head into Sunday’s game against Valencia following the loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. Leo Messi and Co. have been misfiring of late, but the clash against los Che could be the turning point for the Catalan outfit. Barca will be fully focused on the national championship in the remainder of the season and, no doubt, Luis Enrique will count on the MSN trio for the Barcelona game. The reigning champions do not face a tough fixture list in days to come, but they must run out of the complacency they showed in a 1-0 loss to Estadio Municipal de Anoeta at the weekend.

Arda Turan misses the match through suspension, but Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez should be recalled to the starting line-up after they were rested in the game against Real Sociedad.

Signs of improvement

New boss Pako Ayestaran marked his Valencia debut with a loss to Las Palmas, but the Spanish tactician and his men gave fans some cheer at the weekend as they managed to defeat Europa League winners Sevilla at their Estadio de Mestalla. Thanks to the triumph over Unai Emery’s troops los Che moved away from the danger zone, but they have yet to secure the top flight survival. Pako Ayestaran’s men have been struggling on the travels this season and, with Barcelona next, I do not believe that the visitors are capable of recording their only fifth away of the season. Alvaro Negredo came as a substitute and scored the winner against his former club at the weekend and it remains to be seen if the former Manchester City forward is going to be recalled to the starting XI. Anyhow, los Che face an uphill task in Sunday’s game against the defending champions.

Coach Pako Ayestaran has no fresh injury worries and he is likely to field the same starting line-up that faced Sevilla. Jose Gaya has overcome his injury and he is pushing for a start.

Quick Facts

  • Barcelona scored 15 goals in last five home fixtures in La Liga
  • Barca outclassed Valencia 7-0 in their last meeting at Camp Nou (Copa del Rey)
  • Valencia are on a three-game losing run on the road
  • Los Che fialed to beat Barca in last five meetings between the two teams
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in nine of Barcelona’s last ten league games

Barcelona vs Valencia betting tip

Barcelona have no other choice but to go all-out attack against Valencia on Sunday evening. The league leaders aim to bounce back from the shocking 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad and seeing that Luis Enrique is going to field the best possible side against los Che, I am tempted to put my money on the star-studded hosts this time out.

Tip: Barcelona/Barcelona

Turkey vs Sweden 2-1 (2014 Friendly International)
Turkey vs Sweden 0-0 (2008 Friendly International)
Turkey vs Sweden 1-2 (2002 World Cup qualifiers)
Sweden vs Turkey 1-1 (2002 World Cup qualifiers)
Sweden vs Turkey 0-0 (Euro 2000)

Turkey vs Sweden prediction

Having played out a goalless draw with their bitter rivals Greece in November friendly, Turkey will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to twelve games when they take on Sweden in Thursday’s warm-up match in Antalya.

Turks tough to beat

Turkey failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, but thanks to brilliant performances in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, the team did well to secure their place at the showpiece tournament in France. The Turks are on an 11-game unbeaten run ahead of the visit of Sweden and they will be looking to return to winning ways on the international stage after playing out a goalless draw with Greece in their last friendly. Fatih Terim’s troops were impressive at the back in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign and they will definitely rely on their rock-solid defence in Thursday’s clash against Sweden. Barcelona ace Arda Turan is undisputedly the team’s key player and the opposition defenders should have him at bay. The Crescent Stars suffered their last defeat on 12 November (Brazil), but they need to keep on making progress if they are to be at the top of their game when they kick off their Euro 2016 campaign.

Borussia Dortmund Nuri Sahin has been recalled to the squad, with fellow Bundesliga ace Hakan Calhanoglu being included as well. Burak Yilmaz and Serdar Aziz return to contention after missing the Greece game.

Is Ibra irreplaceable?

Sweden, on the other hand, failed to impress in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, but they eventually booked their place in the play-offs. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was at the top of his game in the two-legged tie against Denmark and his goals helped Erik Hamren’s troops qualify for the European Championship finals. Sweden kicked off their preparations for the showpiece tournament in France with a shocking 1-1 draw with Estonia, but they proved their worth in a 3-0 win over Finland on 10 January. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rested in the game against the Finns and, as reports in Sweden suggest, Ibra has taken up Erik Hamren’s offer to skip Thursday’s friendly against Turkey. In his absence in-form attacker John Guidetti is likely to lead the attack for the visitors against the Crescent Stars.

Rasmus Elm has been overlooked, with the likes of Ola Toivonen and Jonas Olsson missing out as well. Benfica defender Victor Nilsson Lindelof has earned his first call-up, but Mikael Antonsson has been omitted. Goalkeeper Per Johannes Hopf is yet another uncapped player in Sweden squad. Aforementioned attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be rested against Turkey.

Quick Facts

  • Turkey are eyeing their fourth consecutive clean sheet at home
  • Turks are on an 11-game unbeaten run
  • Fatih Terim’s troops recorded a 2-1 win over Sweden in their last meeting in Turkey
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who misses the Turkey game, scored 11 goals on the road to France
  • Sweden failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four matches

Turkey vs Sweden betting tip

Turkey impressed in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and given that Sweden ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic is going to miss Thursday’s friendly, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the Crescent Stars. Fatih Terim has a number of top-class players to choose from and they are likely to beat the Swedes in Antalya.

Tip: Turkey to win

Barcelona vs Eibar 3-1 (2015/2016 La Liga)
Eibar vs Barcelona 0-2 (2014/2015 La Liga)
Barcelona vs Eibar 3-0 (2014/2015 La Liga)

Eibar vs Barcelona prediction

Barcelona are coming to Ipurua Municipal Stadium for their fourth consecutive triumph against Eibar. Los Armeros want to stop their downfall in the overall standings by recording first points ever against Blaugrana.

Los Armeros are down to the 8th position

Fernando Llorente’s goal was all Sevilla needed to defeat los Armeros in the previous round, thus continuing Eibar’s losing streak. Borja Baston (16) continued his barren run, going three matches without a goal, and with nobody to replace him, José Luis Mendilibar’s charges failed to score in their last two league fixtures. Their latest run of results got them down to the 8th place in the overall standings and, with Valencia and Real Sociedad breathing down their necks, the Gunners could easily be excluded from the top ten position if they continue to produce such below-par performances. The biggest problem for the Basques is that the punitive expedition from Barcelona are coming to town. Not only that los Armeros haven’t taken a single point in their clashes against Barcelona, but they scored a mere one goal in the spell. Taking under consideration that Ipurua Municipal Stadium outfit lost seven of their last eight La Liga fixtures, it becomes obvious they will have a difficult task achieving a positive result against Blaugrana.

Los Armeros will be without the likes of Borja Ekiza (knock), Antonio Luna (hamstring), Jaime (knock), Keko (calf muscle strain) and Jota Peleteiro (thigh muscle strain), who are all sidelined due to injury..

Record setters form Barcelona

The audience at Estadio del Rayo Vallecano witnessed a late show of Lionel Messi, supported by Rakitic and Arda Turan, as Blaugrana hammered Rayo (5-1). The Turkish international opened his goal scoring account in Barcelona, thus contributing to their tenth consecutive league triumph. The Catalans now hold the Spanish record with an amazing thirty-five-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Luis Enrique is well aware that there is still a lot to do till the end of the season, even though Barca are eight points clear of second-placed Atletico. The Catalans boast a flawless record against los Armeros, the MSN trio will most certainly give hell to opposition defenders once again, which is why we are up for a possible spectacle at Ipurua Municipal Stadium this Sunday afternoon.

There are no fresh injuries in Luis Enrique’s team, so he will have all of his key players at disposal. Rafinha is the only team member in the recovery room because of his ACL-injury.

Quick Facts

  • Eibar lost seven of their previous eight league fixtures
  • Los Armeros scored a single goal in three meetings against Blaugrana
  • Barcelona are on a twenty-game unbeaten run in La Liga
  • Only one of Barca’s ten league matches saw less than 2.5 goals
  • Luis Enrique’s men are unbeaten on their travels since October (W7 D2)

Eibar vs Barcelona betting tip

Eibar have been producing below-par performances of late and they obviously do not stand a chance against high-flying Barcelona. I firmly believe that Blaugrana will record a sure triumph during their visit to Ipurua Municipal Stadium, thus cementing their top position.

Tip: Barcelona/Barcelona

Arsenal vs Barcelona prediction

All eyes will be at Emirates Stadium when Arsenal and Barcelona square off against each other in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday evening. The Catalan giants look unstoppable at the moment, but the game against Arsene Wenger’s troops will be anything but a walk in the park for the visitors.

Uphill task for Arsenal

As expected, Arsene Wenger rested his first-team regulars in Saturday’s FA Cup game against Hull City. As a result, the Gunners played out a goalless draw with the Championship side, but Arsene Wenger’s men were with one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Barcelona. Arsenal did remarkably well to beat Bayern Munich in the group stages at their Emirates Stadium and that is giving the fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Barca. Anyhow, given Barcelona’s thrilling form, the hosts will be more than happy should they happen to share the spoils with Luis Enrique’s team in the first leg. Mesut Ozil is enjoying yet another season to remember and the Germany international will be the man to watch in the home team, alongside Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal are tough to beat at home ground, but preventing Barca attacking trip Neymar – Suarez – Messi from scoring is easier said than done.

Mesut Ozil has recovered from illness and he is likely to be recalled to the starting XI. Tuesday’s Champions League game, though, comes too early for Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla (both injury).

Can anyone stop the MSN trio?

Barcelona are determined to defend their Champions League trophy. The Catalan giants have been producing thrilling performances in the 2015/2016 campaign so far and thanks to a 2-1 win over Las Palmas the team moved one step closer to winning La Liga title. Attacking trio Messi – Neymar – Suarez just can’t stop scoring and they are likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Barca are likely to stick to their attacking style of play and, no doubt, the title holders want to get their job done in the first leg. Luis Enrique did not field the best possible side against Las Palmas at the weekend, but Luis Suarez and Neymar helped the Camp Nou outfit pick up all three points from the match. Anyhow, Barcelona are regarded as hot favourites to win Tuesday’s Champions League match against Arsenal, but the defending champions will have to prove their worth on the field.

Turkish midfielder Arda Turan is banned, while Rafinha Alcantara remains in the recovery room. Defender Gerard Pique returns to the starting XI after he was rested in the 2-1 win over Las Palmas.

Quick Facts

  • Arsenal are on a five-game unbeaten run at the moment
  • Gunners managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home games in CL
  • Barcelona suffered their last defeat on 3 October
  • Barca are undefeated in previous 15 games away from home
  • Luis Enrique’s team scored 11 goals in previous three fixtures in all competitions

Arsenal vs Barcelona betting tip

Barcelona are superior to Arsenal and that is more than obvious, but seeing that the Gunners will leave their hearts on the field in Tuesday’s Champions League game against the reigning champions, I am not tempted to put my money on the away team this time out. Barca have not been impressive at the back of late and I would not be surprised if the hosts score in the first leg. The Catalans, on the other hand, have been scoring goals for fun of late and, taking everything into account, both teams should score in the Emirates Stadium clash.

Tip: Both teams to score

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid prediction

Saturday’s game at Camp Nou pits together Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, the two sides who are level on points ahead of Matchday 22. Barca aim to cement top position in La Liga standings, but Diego Simeone has something else on his mind.

A win for the trophy?

Seeing that Barcelona are level on points with Atletico Madrid, with one game in hand, a victory over los Rojiblancos will see the Catalan giants move one step closer to defending the La Liga title. Luis Enrique’s men recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over Malaga at the weekend and they did well to come from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey game. Barca clinched their place in the Spanish Cup semis, but the team’s main goal is to win the Primera Division title. The reigning champions are eyeing their eight consecutive win in all competitions and seeing that Neymar has overcome his injury, Atletico Madrid defenders are likely to have their work cut out for them when facing the Barca attackers. Luis Enrique’s men have netted 14 goals in previous three league matches at Camp Nou, but they will have to be at their sharpest if they are to emerge triumphant in the La Liga derby.

Jordi Alba and Arda Turan have recovered in time to face Atletico Madrid, while Neymar returns to the starting line-up after missing the Malaga match.

Poor form

Following a goalless draw with ten-man Sevilla, Atletico Madrid suffered a disappointing loss to Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Wednesday evening. Diego Simeone’s men have been struggling to find their form of late and, with Barca next, they are unlikely to put an end to their three-match winless run in all competitions. Los Rojiblancos are level on points with Barcelona and seeing that the capital club will be happy with one point from the match, there is every chance the visitors will rely on their rock-solid defence in Saturday’s derby. Atletico Madrid are after their sixth consecutive clean sheet in La Liga, but preventing Barca trio Messi-Suarez-Neymar from scoring is easier said than done. Antoine Griezmann is the brightest star in Diego Simeone’s team and all eyes will be on the Frenchman on Saturday evening. You should bear in mind that los Rojiblancos are eyeing their fourth consecutive away win in Primera Division.

Fernando Torres is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day, while Tiago Mendes remains in the recovery room. Diego Simeone has no other selection worries ahead of the Camp Nou clash.

Quick Facts

  • Barcelona are after their fourth consecutive clean sheet at home ground
  • Luis Enrique’s men suffered their last defeat at home on 21 February 2015
  • Barca are after their sixth consecutive win over Atletico Madrid
  • Atletico Madrid managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last three away games
  • Los Rojiblancos recorded their last win at Camp Nou back in 2006

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid betting tip

Barcelona have been producing splendid displays at their Camp Nou in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign and seeing that Atletico Madrid have been far from impressive in the national championship of late, there is every chance the title holders will extend their winning run on Saturday. Barcelona trio Messi – Neymar – Suarez looks unstoppable and, taking everything into account, the Catalan giants are likely to pick up all three points from the La Liga derby.

Tip: Barcelona/Barcelona
