El Tri were placed in Group B alongside Jamaica, Uruguay and Venezuela at the tournament finals, but they are still expected to make it through to the next stage.

With the 2016 Summer Olympics also in mind, Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has announced his 23-man squad for the 2016 Copa America Centenario tournament.

There have been some surprises as the likes of Candido Ramirez and Yasser Corona made the cut, but star men Giovani dos Santos and Carlos Vela miss out.

And while the LA Galaxy forward has rejected a chance to represent the Mexico soccer team, it was coach Juan Carlos Osorio who decided to spare the Real Sociedad hotshot.

Their absence is unlikely to be such a major issue considering that the boss can still count on Javier Hernandez, Oribe Peralta and Raul Jimenez.

The Mexico squad will travel to the United States on 26 May, where they will face Paraguay (May 28) and Chile (June 1) in their final warm-up games.

AFAS Stadion will host the Eredivisie derby between AZ Alkmaar and PSV. The title holders aim to regain top position in the standings, but Saturday’s game against AZ will be anything but a walk in the park for the visitors.

AZ impressive at home

AZ Alkmaar endured a surprisingly slow start to the season, with the team struggling to find their best form in the first half of the 2015/2016 Eredivisie campaign. John van den Brom’s troops, though, have been making progress week by week and they seem to be at the top of their game at the moment. The team have been producing thrilling displays at their AFAS Stadion in 2016 and it has to be noted that they are on a seven-game winning run at home ahead of the visit of PSV. However, beating the reigning champions is easier said than done and I believe that the hosts will be satisfied with one point from the game. AZ sit in fourth place in the standings and the team’s main goal is to ensure qualification for the Europa League group stages. If John van den Brom’s men continue to raise their form they will definitely book their spot in the European competition.

The likes of Fernando Lewis, Mattias Johansson, Ron Vlaar and Markus Henriksen are all sidelined with injury, while Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Stijn Wuytens are both out of contention through suspension.

Focus on Eredivisie

Despite holding star-studded Atletico Madrid to a goalless draw on two occasions, PSV eventually failed to eliminate the La Liga side in the Champions League last 16. As a result Phillip Cocu’s troops will be fully focused on Eredivisie in the remainder of the season and, no doubt, they will go for a win in Saturday’s game against AZ Alkmaar. A win over AZ could see Phillip Cocu’s men regain top position in the Eredivisie standings and I believe that away win should be considered. Luuk de Jong was on international duty with Netherlands at the weekend, but the team’s top scorer is widely expected to lead the line for the title holders against AZ Alkmaar. PSV are eyeing their seventh consecutive win on the road, speaking of league games.

Simon Poulsen, Jurgen Locadia and Andres Guardado are all sidelined with injury, but there are no suspended players in the away team. Phillip Cocu is likely to stick to the 4-3-3 formation.
