Stoke vs Tottenham prediction

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to strengthen their grip on second place in the Premier League standings with a win over Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on Monday evening. The Spurs outclassed Manchester United at the weekend and they are certainly brimming with confidence ahead of the closing match of day 34.

Little to play for

Stoke City have already secured the top flight survival and seeing that they are nine points behind the Europa League berth in the Premier League standings, the Potters are unlikely to take part in the European competitions next season. Mark Hughes’ men recorded only one win in last five league matches and they will be looking to make amends for a heavy 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield when they square off against Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 34. Stoke City experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the loss to Jurgen Klopp’s charges and you should bear in mind that the Potters failed to keep a clean sheet in previous five league games. Bojan Krkic scored a consolation goal for Stoke in the Anfield clash and he is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up. Xherdan Shaqiri should start the match as well and the former Bayern Munich ace could prove a handful for the opposition back line.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland, defenders Glen Johnson and Marc Wilson are all likely to miss the match with injury. Erik Pieters is banned, while Marc Muniesa is a major doubt. Jonathan Walters is yet another absentee in the home team.

Terrific performance against Man Utd

Tottenham Hotspur failed to impress in the first half of Sunday’s derby against Manchester United, but the Spurs produced a thrilling display in the second half of the game and they totally deserved to pick up all three points from the White Hart Lane clash. Harry Kane failed to score against Man Utd, but, no doubt, the English attacker will be the man to watch in Mauro Pochettino’s team in Monday’s game against Stoke City. Tottenham do not want to give up on their title dream, but, as things stand now, the Spurs will be more than happy should they happen to book their place in the Champions League group stages. Seeing that the Potters head into the match with a severely-weakened squad, Mauro Pochettino’s men are regarded as hot favourites to win the Britannia Stadium game, but they will have to prove their worth on the field.

Nabil Bentaleb has yet to overcome his injury, while Clinton N’Jie is closing in on a return. Coach Mauricio Pochettino has no other selection worries ahead of the Stoke City game.

Quick Facts

  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in last three meetings between the two teams
  • In their last meeting at Britannia Stadium Stoke hammered Spurs 3-0
  • Stoke conceded 1+ goals in each of their last five league games
  • Spurs recorded only one win in last four away games in all competitions
  • Tottenham managed to keep three clean sheets in last four league matches

Stoke vs Tottenham betting tip

As I have already mentioned, Stoke City head into the match with a severely-weakened squad and taking into account that Tottenham Hotspur impressed in the 3-0 win over Manchester United, away win appears on the cards. Mauro Pochettino is likely to field the best possible side against Stoke and, taking everything into account, away win should be considered.

Tip: Tottenham to win

Odds: 1.85 (6/7) @bet365
