Stoke vs Arsenal prediction
Arsenal were beaten by Stoke City in their last meeting at Britannia Stadium, but the Gunners return to the stadium with genuine title hopes. Arsene Wenger’s troops aim to retain top position in the Premier League standings, but Sunday’s game against the Potters will be anything but a walk in the park for the league leaders.
Four wins in last five home games
Following back-to-back wins over the likes of Manchester United and Everton Stoke City suffered a 2-1 loss to WBA in their last away game in the Premier League. However, the Potters quickly bounced back from the defeat, with the team beating ten-man Norwich City at their Britannia Stadium in midweek. The fans have high expectations for Sunday’s game against Arsenal and it remains to be seen if the Potters are capable of recording their third consecutive win over Arsene Wenger’s team, speaking of encounters at Britannia Stadium. Marko Arnautovic is in form of his life and the opposition defenders are likely to have their work cut out for them when facing the Austria attacker. Mark Hughes’ men have registered four wins in previous five home fixtures in the league and seeing that a win over Arsenal could see them overtake Manchester United in the Premier League standings, I am positive that the hosts will adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s clash.
Shay Given, Geoff Cameron, Marc Muniesa and Steven Ireland are all sidelined with injury, while Xherdan Shaqiri is rated doubtful. Jonathan Walters scored against Norwich and he should keep his place in the starting line-up.
Gunners dropped two points at Anfield
Arsenal were on the verge of beating Liverpool at Anfield in midweek, but Joe Allen scored a late equalizer for the Reds, but seeing that Manchester City played out a goalless draw with Everton, the Gunners are still three points clear of Manuel Pellegrini’s troops in the Premier League standings. It has been 12 years since Arsene Wenger lifted his last EPL trophy with Arsenal and the fans believe that the time has come for the capital club to regain the domestic title. The Gunners are regarded as favourites on paper to beat Stoke City, but seeing that they were defeated by Mark Hughes’ troops in last two meetings between the two sides at Britannia Stadium, I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors this time out. The good news for the fans is that Alexis Sanchez has overcome his injury and the Chilean attacker will surely help the league leaders improve their game in days to come.
Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky remain sidelined with injury, but aforementioned attacker Alexis Sanchez is fit and he is likely to play some part in Sunday’s game against Stoke.
Quick Facts
- Stoke City failed to score in previous two encounters against Arsenal
- Potters are eyeing their sixth home win of the season
- Arsenal recorded their last win at Britannia Stadium back in 2010
- Gunners conceded seven goals in previous two away fixtures
- Ten goals in total were scored in last three meetings between Stoke and Arsenal
Stoke vs Arsenal betting tip
Over the years Stoke City have turned their Britannia Stadium into a real fortress. The Potters have already defeated the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd at home this season and I believe that the in-form hosts are likely to score in Sunday’s game against Arsenal. The Gunners aim to cement top position in the Premier League standings and seeing that key attacker Alexis Sanchez returns to contention, I am tempted to back both teams to score in the Britannia Stadium clash.
Tip: Both teams to score
