Premier League Matchday 22 Preview

Judging by the names of their opponents, it seems that the league leaders will have easy tasks in their round 22 encounters. But, one should not judge a book by its cover. Arsenal are visiting Stoke, who already decapitated Chelsea and both Manchester teams this term, while Manchester City await Crystal Palace, a team that proved to be a tough nut to crack on their travels. Spurs and Foxes face bottom-table teams, Sunderland and Aston Villa, where easy wins are expected, but we will see if they can handle the pressure. If we add that Chelsea are playing against Everton at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield, it is obvious that we have an exciting weekend in front of us.

Saturday

12:45 GMT Tottenham Hotspur vs Sunderland

15:00 GMT Bournemouth vs Norwich City

Vitality Stadium will host, what appears to be, a relegation six-pointer between Bournemouth and Norwich City. The two teams which fought hard last season to gain promotion to the Premier League now need to fight even harder to stay in it. The Cherries have never recorded a triumph against the Canaries (D3 L3). Their last encounter at Bournemouth ended with a 2-1 victory for Norwich. In their debut season in the Premier League, Eddie Howe’s charges suffered yet another defeat against Alex Neil’s charges (3-1). A win in this match is equally important for both sides, but the fact of the matter is that both teams are highly unpredictable, since they can win and lose against any side in the league. The only certain thing is that there will be goals, since Norwich defense capitulated in all of their away games this term, they concede more than two goals per game on their travels. Bournemouth, on the other hand, record over 2.5 goals on average at Vitality Stadium this season. This is why I will put my money on goals.`

Tip: Over 2.5 goals

15:00 GMT Chelsea vs Everton

Special: Chelsea & Man City both to Win is 10/1

15:00 GMT Manchester City vs Crystal Palace

After a rather disappointing home draw against Everton (0-0), Manchester City will be at home once again, since Crystal Palace are coming to Etihad Stadium. The Eagles suffered a surprising loss against Aston Vila (2-1), and the trip to Manchester comes at a very bad time for them, since Alan Pardew’s charges recorded their last away triumph against the Citizens almost twenty five years ago. Since then Manuel Pellegrini’s men boast a 7-3-0 home run, with a 100% success record at Etihad. The Eagles did not concede more than one goal in all of their away fixtures this term, except against the Citizens in Capital One Cup (5-1). The fact is that Manuel Pellegrini cannot afford another slip-up and, since he already managed to achieve a triumph twice against Alan Pardew this season, there is every possibility for continuation of his good run against the Eagles at Etihad.

Tip: Man City/Man City

15:00 GMT Newcastle United vs West Ham United

West Ham United will be looking to continue their nine-game undefeated streak in all competitions, as they are visiting Newcastle United at St James’ Park. This can prove to be a difficult task since Slaven Bilic’s men scored a mere one goal in previous four matches in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Magpies boast a 0-2-4 record in previous six matches, they have won just two of their eleven home games this season (D5 L4), with more than three goals per game on average, but nothing is certain when it comes to Steve McClaren’s side. The Hammers are on the run, they won four games in a row, Dmitry Payet is back after two months and will be leading the attack on Saturday in hope for the fifth consecutive win. West Ham play slightly better on their travels this term, hence a tough battle is expected. I predict a close game, but will give the visitors a slight advantage.

Tip: Away win

15:00 GMT Southampton vs West Bromwich Albion

After back-to-back Premier League defeats against Norwich (1-0) and West Ham (2-1), Southampton recorded a much needed win against Watford (2-0) on home turf. This was their second consecutive triumph at St Marry’s Stadium, which boosted the team’s morale and now they await the clash against WBA in high spirits. On the other hand, the Baggies arrive to Hampshire hoping to continue their four-game undefeated streak in all competitions. This will not be an easy task, since Tony Pulis’ side recorded a single win against the Saints in their previous five encounters (D2 L2). These two teams are rather ineffective when it comes to their recent mutual encounters. Only three goals were scored in their last five meetings. Looking at the statistics, these two teams score less than 2.5 goals per game on average in their past meetings. This is why I expect a tough game with not a lot of fireworks.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

17:30 GMT Aston Villa vs Leicester City

Sunday

14:05 GMT Liverpool vs Manchester United

Special: Get 10/1 on Liverpool or 10/1 on Man Utd to Win

16:15 GMT Stoke City vs Arsenal

Monday

20:00 GMT Swansea City vs Watford
