Manchester City vs Manchester United prediction

Both the Citizens and the Red Devils are in search for better form in their upcoming clash. The local rivals are still battling for a Champions League spot next season, so defeat is not an option for neither of the sides.

The Citizens are in the quarter-finals for the first time

Manuel Pellegrini’s charges managed to ease past Dynamo Kiev and secure their place in the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in history. Nonetheless, the Citizens are not in the mood for celebration, as they lost Kompany and Otamendi in the process, due to injuries. Pellegrini’s defense are in serious problems, since it is well known that MCFC’s last line is not the same without their captain. With Kompany at helm, Manuel Pellegrini’s charges kept a clean sheet on their last two home games, while without him Hart almost always gets at least one in the net. This is why City’s fans will rely on their efficient attack. Sergio Aguero (16) has been rather productive in recent matches and will prove to be a handful to United’s defenders. Etihad Stadium witnessed a lot of fireworks since the beginning of the season and it seems that the forthcoming derby will be no exception.

Nicolas Otamendi (knock), Yaya Toure (heel), Kevin De Bruyne (knee), Fabian Delph (achilles tendonitis), Vincent Company (calf muscle strain) and Samir Nasri (hamstring) are all out due to their injuries.

Van Gaal under lot of pressure

Louis van Gaal said to the press that the upcoming derby against the Citizens is crucial to their Champions League aspirations next term. Even though he stated otherwise, it is more than obvious the Dutch managers is under heavy pressure especially after being knocked out from the Europa League by Liverpool. Last four months there were rumors about his dismissal and, if he records yet another negative result, chances are Giggs will lead the team for the rest of the season. The Red Devils have been rather toothless on their travels of late, Martial scored his last away goal more than a month ago, thus his team won just once in their last six fixtures on the road (D1 L4). However, given the fact the Citizens will be without half of their standard defenders, there is a slight possibility MUFC could improve their effectiveness when playing as visitors.

United have a long list of injured players. Donald Love, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, William Keane, Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones and Ashley Young are all in the recovery room.

Quick Facts

  • The Red Devils recorded a single triumph against the Citizens in their last six matches (D1 L4)
  • United won their last match at Etihad more than three years ago
  • Van Gaal’s men are on a four–game winless run in all competitions
  • The Citizens are the most efficient team on home turf in the league
  • Only two of City’s fifteen home matches saw less than 2.5 goals per game

Manchester City vs Manchester United betting tip

Even though that both teams suffered a indifferent league form of late, I will give a slight advantage to the hosts. United are rather miserable on their travels, with four defeats in their last five games. Citizens, on the other hand, should take advantage over United’s inconsistency in recent matches and keep the entire pray on home soil.

Tip: Home win
