Villarreal vs Liverpool 1-0 (2015/2016 Europa League)

Liverpool vs Villarreal Team News

The likes of Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Divock Origi, Mamadou Sakho and Danny Ings remain on the sidelines, but Emre Can could recover in time to face Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final, return leg. Jurgen Klopp rested the likes of Joe Allen, James Milner, Alberto Moreno, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino against Swansea City and they are all likely to be recalled to the starting XI.

Injured: Joe Gomez (0/0), Jordan Henderson (6/0), Divock Origi (11/2), Mamadou Sakho (10/1), Danny Ings (2/0)

Doubtful: Emre Can (12/1)

Suspended: None

Leo Baptistao and Eric Bailly have recovered from their respective injuries, meaning that coach Marcelino will have a full squad to choose from against Liverpool. The Spanish tactician is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced the Premier League side at Camp El Madrigal.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Quick Facts

  • Liverpool scored ten goals in previous three home games in the Premier League
  • Reds are on a four-match winning run at their Anfield in the Europa League
  • Liverpool scored 1+ goals in each of their previous 13 home games in the EL
  • Villarreal suffered three defeats in previous five away games in La Liga
  • Yellow Submarine managed to keep three clean sheets in last five EL fixtures

Liverpool vs Villarreal Prediction

Liverpool have no other choice but to go all guns blazing at Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final return leg. The Reds conceded a late goal (0-1) in the first leg and they now need to overcome the deficit in front of home fans. Seeing that the La Liga side are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in Thursday’s showdown, I do not believe that we will see goals galore at Anfield. Taking everything into account, one goal should separate the two sides in the return leg.
