PSG vs Monaco prediction

Al leyes will be at Parc des Princes when PSG and Monaco square off against each other in the Ligue 1 derby. Les Parisiens have already clinched the domestic trophy, but they want to give fans yet another reason for celebration.

Job already done

Thanks to a thrilling 9-0 win over Troyes Paris Saint Germain won yet another Ligue 1 trophy. Laurent Blanc can breathe easier and no doubt les Parisiens will be fully focused on the Champions League in the remainder of the season. The capital club will face fellow big-spending side Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the elite competition and, no doubt, Laurent Blanc will rest his key players in upcoming league matches against Monaco and Nice. PSG’s pride, though, will be at stake when they host Monaco at their Parc des Princes on Sunday and regardless of which players will be deployed in the starting line-up, I am positive that the hosts will give 100% to extend their winning run in the national championship. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the team’s top scorer, but Laurent Blanc may decide to rest the Swedish attacker against les Rouges et Blancs.

Italian midfielder Marco Verratti is sidelined with injury, while Serge Aurier is banned. Blaise Matuidi is doubtful and he will be assessed on the match day. Laurent Blanc is likely to stick to the 4-3-3 formation.

Three consecutive draws

As expected, Monaco recorded a routine 3-1 win over Troyes on 20 February, but they have not recorded a victory in the Ligue 1 ever since. Following back-to-back draws against the likes of Nantes and Caen, les Rouges et Blancs shared the spoils with Reims as well and they will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on PSG at Parc des Princes on Sunday. Leonardo Jardim’s troops are on the right track to book their place in the Champions League, but seeing that they are just five points clear of fourth-placed Nice, the visitors will fight tooth and nail against les Parisiens in order to pick up at least one point from the match. PSG have already clinched the Ligue 1 trophy and Monaco will not have better chance than this to upset the capital club at Parc des Princes. You should have in mind that les Rouges et Blancs are eyeing their seventh away win of the season.

The likes of Adama Traore, Mario Pasalic, Fabio Coentrao and Joao Moutinho are all out of contention with injury, while Nabil Dirar and Bernardo Silva are both sidelined through suspension.

Quick Facts

  • Monaco recorded their last win at Parc des Princes back in 2010
  • PSG are undefeated in last eight meetings with Monaco
  • Les Parisiens suffered their last defeat at home on 7 May, 2014
  • Monaco are on a four-game winless run on the road (Ligue 1)
  • PSG played out a goalless draw with Montpellier in their last home fixture

PSG vs Monaco betting tip

PSG have little to play for in Sunday’s game against Monaco. The Ligue 1 champions, though, want to celebrate their domestic trophy victory with fans and it remains to be seen if les Rouges et Blancs are capable of spoiling PSG’s party at Parc des Princes. Anyhow, there is every chance the two teams will share the spoils in Paris on Matchday 31.
