PSG vs Caen prediction

After suffering elimination to Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals, Paris Saint-Germain footballers feel a bit disappointed, but a win over Caen on Saturday afternoon could help les Parisiens regain a much-needed confidence.

PSG’s Champions League dream already over

Paris Saint-Germain have been impressive in the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign. Les Parisiens have already clinched the domestic trophy, but, on the other hand, they failed to impress in the Champions League doubleheader against Manchester City. Laurent Blanc’s troops do not seem capable of going all the way in the elite competition, but, as the end of the day, they should not be too disappointed with achievement in the current campaign. PSG recorded back-to-back wins over the likes of Nice and Guingamp in previous two league matches and despite the fact that les Parisiens have already lifted the Ligue 1 trophy, there is every chance the capital club will give 100% in Saturday’s game against Caen as they want to make amends for the Champions League defeat. Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit out at Blanc’s tactics after the Manchester City game and the Swedish attacker is unlikely to lead the line for the hosts against Caen.

Thiago Motta is sidelined with injury, while the likes of David Luiz and Marco Verratti are both rated doubtful. Blaise Matuidi returns to the starting line-up after missing the Manchester City game through suspension. Javier Pastore is fit and he is pushing for a start as well.

Dip in form

Caen finished the 2014/2015 Ligue 1 campaign in 13th position in the standings, eight points clear of the relegation zone. Patrice Garande’s men, though, are sitting in the top half of the table at the moment and they could even book a place in the European competitions. Caen have been having their ups and downs in the second half of the season and they need to start winning on a regular basis if they are to finish the season in top four. The visitors head into the game against the reigning champions following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Toulouse and Lorient and, no doubt, they will have a big fish to fry in the Parc des Princes clash. Caen recorded their last win over PSG back in 2008 and given their recent form I do not believe that they are capable of putting and to the negative trend.

The likes of Ben Youssef, Emmanuel Imorou, Christian Kouakou and Alexandre Raineau are all sidelined with injury, while Andy Delort, Jeff Louis and Vincent Bessat are all rated doubtful.

Quick Facts

  • PSG suffered only two defeats in last 38 league matches
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in six of last seven meetings between the two teams
  • Caen failed to beat PSG in previous nine encounters in Ligue 1
  • PSG recorded only one win in last four home games in the league
  • Caen suffered four defeats in previous five away matches

PSG vs Caen betting tip

PSG aim to bounce back from the Champions League loss to Manchester City and that is the main reason why I am tempted to put my money on les Parisiens this time out. Caen do not seem to be at the top of their game and seeing that PSG do not suit the visitors, home victory appears on the cards. Les Parisiens emerged triumphant in the reverse fixture (3-0).
