Montpellier vs Nice prediction

High-flying Montpellier will be looking to climb to the top half of the table with a win over Nice on Matchday 30. Les Aiglons are eyeing a place in the Champions League, but Saturday’s clash at Stade de la Mosson will be anything but a walk in the park for the visitors.

Montpellier big catch even for PSG

Following three consecutive wins over the likes of Toulouse, Angers and Lille, Montpellier played out a goalless draw with Paris Saint-Germain in their last league match. PSG coach did mix the squad against Montpellier, but preventing the defending champions from scoring is easier said than done. La Paillade moved away from the relegation zone and they are now on a quest to climb to the top half of the Ligue 1 standings. A win over Nice would definitely help the hosts move one step closer to meeting their goal and it remains to be seen if Montpellier are capable of recording their third consecutive win at home ground. Frederic Hantz’s men outplayed the likes of Toulouse and Lille in previous two home fixtures, with the team managing to keep a clean sheet in each of those two encounters.

Geoffroy Jourdren and Paul Lasne are both sidelined with injury, while the likes of Morgan Sanson, Souleymane Camara and Hilton are all rated doubtful. A man to watch in the home team will be attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz.

Seven-game winless run on the road

Thanks to a 2-1 win over rock-bottom Troyes, Nice managed to put an end to stop the run of four league games without a win. Les Aiglons stayed in the race for a place in the Champions League, but many people believe that they are not capable of matching Monaco and Lyon, who are sitting in top three at the moment. Anyhow, Claude Puel’s men should mind their own business and I am positive that the visitors will adopt an attack-minded approach in Saturday’s clash against Montpellier. The team’s away record, though, is anything but impressive and it has to be noted that they failed to record a win in previous seven away matches in the Ligue 1. Key player Hatem Ben Arfa has overcome his respective injury and all eyes will be on the former Newcastle United ace when the two sides take on each other at Stade de la Mosson on Saturday.

Mickael Le Bihan, Simon Pouplin, Mathieu Bodmer, Jonathan Correia and Paulin Puel are all out of contention with injury, while Maxime Le Marchand is doubtful and he will be assessed on the match day.

Quick Facts

  • Montpellier are on a five-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1
  • La Paillade managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home games
  • Nice failed to score in previous two away fixtures in the league
  • Les Aiglons recorded their last away win on 8 November, 2015
  • Nice recorded their last win at Montpellier in 1995

Montpellier vs Nice betting tip

Nice are superior to Montpellier, but given les Aiglons’ poor away record, I do not believe that away win should be considered this time out. Claude Puel’s troops failed to score in last three away games and considering that La Paillade managed to keep a clean sheet in the Parc des Princes clash against PSG, I would not be surprised if we see a low-scoring encounter at Stade de la Mosson.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
