Monaco vs Troyes prediction

Monaco will be aiming to strengthen their grip on second place in the Ligue 1 standings with a win over rock-bottom Troyes. However, the hosts head into the match with a severely-weakened squad and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their fourth straight win at home.

Monaco hit by injuries and suspensions

Following back-to-back wins over Bastia and Nice, Monaco played out a 1-1 draw with Saint-Etienne at the weekend. Anyhow, despite sharing the spoils with les Verts, les Rouges et Blancs remained in second place in the Ligue 1 standings, six points clear of second-placed Nice. Leonardo Jardim’s troops are desperate to regain their place in the Champions League group stages, but considering that the hosts head into Saturday’s game against Troyes with a severely-weakened squad, I am not tempted to put my money on the hosts this time out. Key midfielder Joao Moutinho will be sorely missed in Saturday’s Ligue 1 game and, in his absence, a man to watch in the home team will be January signing Vagner Love, who found the net in the 1-1 draw with Saint Etienne at the weekend.

Joao Moutinho, Nabil Dirar and Fabinho all miss the match through suspension, while the likes of Toulalan, Traore, Cavaleiro, Bernardo Silva and Fabio Coentrao are all sidelined with injury. Guido Carillo is likely to be recalled to the starting XI.

Ligue 1 survival – mission impossible?

Despite being stuck at the bottom in the Ligue 1 standings, Troyes have been producing fine performances in the national championship of late. The Blues outplayed Lille on the road last month and they head into Saturday’s match against Monaco high on confidence. A win over les Rouges et Blancs would see the visitors keep their hopes of securing the top flight survival alive and they are certainly capable of upsetting the second-placed side. Troyes have no other choice but to go all guns blazing at Leonardo Jardim’s troops and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their third away win of the season. Karim Azamoum scored a brace in the 3-2 win over Ajaccio at the weekend, meaning that the opposition defenders should have him at bay in the Stade Louis II clash. The 26-year-old midfielder has netted three goals in all competitions this season.

The likes of Lacour, Kone and N’Diaye are sidelined through injury, while Perea will have to serve his ban against Monaco. Coach Mohamed Bradja has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Monaco.

Quick Facts

  • Monaco recorded their last win over Troyes ten years ago
  • Les Rouges et Blancs are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home
  • Troyes are undefeated in previous five meetings with Monaco
  • Mohamed Bradja’s men conceded 10 goals in previous four games
  • The two sides played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture

Monaco vs Troyes betting tip

Troyes are desperate to grab something from Saturday’s clash. The relegation strugglers need to pick up all three points if they are to keep their hopes of securing the elite division survival alive and given the fact that the hosts are hit by injuries and suspensions, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the visitors this time out. Troyes managed to beat Lille away from home in January and they are definitely capable of spoiling Monaco’s party at Stade Louis II.

Tip: Troyes +1.5

Odds: 1.70 (7/10) @bet365
