Monaco vs Toulouse prediction
Buoyed by a 2-0 win over Lorient Monaco will be looking to move one step closer to booking their place in the Champions League with a win over Toulouse, who were more than unfortunate to suffer a loss to PSG in the Coupe de France on Tuesday evening.
Champions League – Monaco’s reality
Monaco played out a 2-2 draw with Gazelec Ajaccio in their first match of the new year. Les Rouges et Blancs, though, produced a splendid performance against Lorient at the weekend and thanks to a 2-0 win over les Merlus the team managed to strengthen their grip on a place in the Champions League. Leonardo Jardim is doing a great job with Stade Louis II outfit and his men will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches in Ligue 1 when they take on Toulouse on Sunday. Experienced midfielder Joao Moutinho found the net in the 2-0 win over Lorient and, no doubt, all eyes will be on him when Monaco and Toulouse square off against each other at Stade Louis II. Les Rouges et Blancs are eyeing their fourth home win of the season, but they can’t afford any complacency against Toulouse, who are desperate to escape the relegation zone.
Adama Traore, Almamy Toure, Elderson Echiejile, Ivan Cavaleiro and Jeremy Toulalan remain sidelined with injury. New signing Vagner Love is a major doubt, while Thomas Lemar faces a late fitness test.
Tough fixture list
After suffering a 1-0 loss to PSG in their last Ligue 1 game, les Pitchouns faced les Parisiens at Parc des Princes in the Coupe de France clash. Dominique Arribage’s men conceded a late goal in a 2-1 loss to les Parisiens and they will be looking to recover from the defeat when they take on Monaco at Stade Louis II in Sunday’s Ligue 1 match. Toulouse are desperate to move away from bottom two, but beating les Rouges et Blancs on the road is easier said than done. Les Pitchouns have been struggling on the travels this season, but the fact that they defeated Reims in their previous away game is giving the fans a reason for optimism ahead of the trip to Monaco. Attacking duo Martin Braithwaite and Wissam Ben Yedder has netted 13 goals in total this season and they are likely to prove handful for the opposition defenders.
Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik misses the match with injury, while Zinedine Machach and Marcel Tisserand are both doubtful for the Monaco game. Coach Dominique Arribage has no other selection worries ahead of the match.
Quick Facts
- Under 2.5 goals were scored in six of Monaco’s previous seven home matches
- Monaco are undefeated in five encounters against Toulouse
- Les Rouges et Blancs are after their ninth clean sheet of the season
- Toulouse have suffered six defeats on the road this season
- Les Pitchouns recorded their last win at Stade Louis II back in 2008
- Nine goals in total were netted in previous three meetings between the two teams
Monaco vs Toulouse betting tip
Monaco are superior to Toulouse and the hosts are favourites on paper to win Sunday’s Ligue 1 game. Les Rouges et Blancs impressed in the 2-0 win over Lorient and seeing that they are desperate to return to the Champions League, I believe that there is a big value in betting on Leonardo Jardim’s troops. Toulouse have been having a very busy schedule in January and, taking everything into account, les Pitchouns, who are not regarded as good travelers, are unlikely to spoil Monaco’s party at Stade Louis II.
Tip: Monaco to win
