Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis betting prediction

With goal difference as the only thing separating the two sides and the identical score after five rounds, Sunday’s game will be a derby between the two promoted sides looking to survive the cut in La Liga at the end of the season.

Real Deal

Sporting Gijon opened their account in the new La Liga season with a huge point having managed to hold Real Madrid to a goalless draw at their El Molinon. They went on doing the same thing in the next round away at Real Sosiedad, but then paid the price against Valencia. Rojiblancos are not willing to surrender just yet and they recorded a hard fought win last week at Deportivo La Coruna, before losing during the week to Rayo Vallekano. Led by Antonio Sanabria who put his name twice on the score-sheet so far and with the help of Barcelona starlet Alen Halilovic who is slowly beginning to show his worth, Sporting Gijon are looking to earn the most out of the current campaign and get as further as they can from the relegation zone. Abelardo Fernandez is doing his best at the helm of the newly promoted side hoping to mark the weekend with his first home win of the season.

Fernandez will be without Antonio Sanabria and Ivan Cuellar who are injured, while Gijon manager will also be deprived of the services of suspended Bernando.

Van der Vaart not enough

Promoted as Segunda Division champions, Real Betis have high hopes for the current La Liga campaign. Transfer activity was a definite proof as Los Beticos brought in Rafael Van der Vaart the former Real Madrid playmaker who made his long waited debut at home against Deportivo La Coruna in the midweek game. Dutchman was unable to prevent his team from losing the game 1-2 in which Van der Vart picked up a knock in the process. This was Betis’ second defeat in the new season after being hammered by Real Madrid last month 5-0. Pepe Mel is having problems with his team’s inefficiency as the Beticos scored only three goals so far and this is definitely an issue that needs to be solved as soon as possible. Betis are travelling to Gijon knowing that they failed to win their last six away games in the Spanish championship, hoping to turn the things around and leapfrog the fellow promoted side.

There are three injured players in Betis’ squad as Mel will be without Didier Digard, Alfred N’Diaye and Francisco Molinaro, while Dani Ceballos is set to return to the starting line up.

Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis betting tip

Last season’s rivals from the second tier of the Spanish football are coming into the Sunday’s game looking to send a message to one another after their disappointing defeats during the week. Real Betis outplayed Sporting in two occasions last season and host are willing to make amends and serve revenge. However, with not much separating the two sides early in the season, goals could be a preferred choice for this outing.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
