Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad prediction

Out-of-form Real Sociedad face Spanish giants Real Madrid on day 17 of the 2015/2021 La Liga campaign and that could spell more bad news for the Basque outfit. Los Blancos are desperate to regain top position in the standings, but Rafa Benitez’s charges will have to guard against complacency.

Ten reasons for optimism

Real Madrid faced a must-win situation in the clash against Rayo Vallecano and they managed to beat the fellow capital club in front of home fans. Los Blancos scored no less than ten goals in the local derby (10-2), but it has to be noted that two Rayo players were sent off during the match. Despite recording the historical win over los Vallecanos, coach Rafa Benitez still feels the pressure and some reports in Spain suggest that the club chief Florentino Perez is already looking for his replacement. Anyhow, Real Madrid face yet another must-win situation on Wednesday evening and I am positive that the hosts will go all guns blazing at Real Sociedad. Gareth Bale scored four goals in the 10-2 win over Rayo and the Welsh superstar is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Cristiano Ronaldo is eager to extend his goal-scoring run in La Liga and he will pose a big threat for Real Sociedad back line as well.

The likes of Sergio Ramos and Tony Kroos are both rated doubtful, but Raphael Varane has overcome his injury. Rafa Benitez has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad.

La Real’s top flight status in danger

New coach Eusebio Sacristan led Real Sociedad to morale-boosting victories over Sevilla and Eibar, but the team have been struggling to find their form of late. La Real suffered elimination in Copa del Rey and following a 1-1 draw with Getafe the Basques were beaten by Villarreal at their Estadio Municipal de Anoeta. Real Sociedad dropped to 14th place in Primera Division standings and they are just two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of the trip to Madrid. The Basques face an uphill task in Wednesday’s encounter against Real Madrid and I would not be surprised if coach Sacristan decides to rest some of his first-team regulars for the Rayo Vallecano game. It is well known that Real Sociedad struggle on the travels, but you should bear in mind that they have netted only two goals in previous four away matches in the national championship. Imanol Agirretxe is enjoying a season to remember, meaning that Real Madrid defenders should try to keep him at bay.

De La Bella returns from suspension, while Zurutuza and Raul Navas have yet to overcome their respective injuries. Coach Sacristan should stick to the 4-3-3 formation.

Quick Facts

  • Real Madrid scored 15 goals in last four meetings with Real Sociedad
  • Los Blancos have netted 20 goals in previous five home games in the league
  • Rafa Benitez’s men are after their seventh home win of the season
  • Real Sociedad recorded their last win at Santiago Bernabeu back in 2004
  • La Real have already suffered four defeats on the road this season
  • Eusebio Sacristan’s men failed to score in two of their previous three away fixtures

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad betting tip

Real Madrid are high on confidence ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad. Los Blancos aim to build on the thrilling win over Rayo and given La Real’s poor away record, there is every chance the hosts will record a routine win over the Basque outfit. In previous five meetings between the two teams 27 goals in total have been netted and, taking everything into account, we should see goals galore at the “Bernabeu”.

Tip: Over 3.5 goals
