Getafe vs Real Madrid prediction

High-flying Real Madrid will be looking to melt Barcelona’s advantage to only one point in the La Liga standings with a win over Getafe in the local derby. Los Azulones are running down a blind alley at the moment and it remains to be seen if new coach Juan Esnaider is capable of helping the team claim a major scalp on Matchday 33.

New boss, same goal

Getafe were producing fine performances in the first half of the season, but the team have been experiencing all sorts of problems in 2016. The situation at Coliseum Alfonso Perez is alarming as los Azulones recorded their last league win on 17 January and the club chiefs had no other choice but to sack coach Juan Escriba. New boss Juan Esnaider is on a quest to help the capital club secure the top flight survival, but the team face an uphill task in Saturday’s local derby against star-studded Real Madrid. Getafe are on a 12-game winless run in La Liga and it is no surprise they are regarded as big underdogs in Saturday’s match. It has to be noted that los Azulones failed to score in three of their last league fixtures.

Santiago Vergini returns from suspension, but Alvaro Medran will have to serve his ban this time out. New coach Juan Esnaider has no fresh injury worries ahead of the Real Madrid game.

Los Blancos brimming with confidence

Real Madrid suffered a shocking 2-0 loss to Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg, but Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the return leg and helped los Blancos book their place in the semis of the elite competition. Zinedine Zidane’s troops proved their worth in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu clash and they will be looking to build on the victory when they take on Getafe in Saturday’s La Liga game. Real Madrid are just four points behind league leaders Barcelona in the La Liga standings and, no doubt, the capital club will go for a win in the Coliseum Alfonso Perez clash. Cristiano Ronaldo has been scoring goals for fun in the second half of the season and the Portuguese superstar is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. Real Madrid are eyeing their seventh consecutive win over Getafe, but they will have to prove their worth on the field.

Sergio Ramos returns from suspension, while Raphael Varane could make his return against Getafe after overcoming his injury. Karim Benzema returns to the starting line-up, but Danilo misses the match through suspension.

Quick Facts

  • Getafe failed to record a win in last 12 league matches
  • Los Azulones failed to score in three of their last four league games
  • Real Madrid defeated Getafe in previous six meetings between the two teams
  • Los Blancos are on a six-game winning run in La Liga
  • Real Madrid scored 2+ goals in each of their last six league fixtures

Getafe vs Real Madrid betting tip

Real Madrid have been in a much better form of late than their next rivals. Zinedine Zidane can count on all of his key players for the Getafe game and despite the fact that new boss Juan Esnaider will make his debut against los Blancos, I am tempted to put my money on the away team this time out. Taking everything into account, Real Madrid are likely to record their seventh consecutive win over Getafe.
