Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla prediction

Atletico Madrid will be aiming to record their fifth consecutive win in La Liga when they take on Sevilla at their Estadio Vicente Calderon on Sunday. Los Sevillanos are tough to beat at home, but it remains to be seen if they will finally record their first away win of the season.

100% record in 2016

Atletico Madrid experienced all sorts of problems in their first match of the new year, with the team scoring a late winner in a 1-0 triumph over Levante. Following a 2-0 win at Celta Vigo los Rojiblancos defeated Las Palmas in their last leagues match (3-0) and they are eager to keep their fifth consecutive clean sheet in La Liga. Diego Simeone’s men played out a goalless draw with Celta Vigo in Copa del Rey quarter-finals, first leg and no doubt defence is the key to Atletico’s success. Antoine Griezmann is enjoying yet another successful season and the French attacker, who scored a brace against los Amarillos, is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition back line. The league leaders are a real force to be reckoned with at home and you should bear in mind that they are eyeing their sixth consecutive win at their Estadio Vicente Calderon.

Oliver Torres and Fernando Torres are both likely to miss the match with injury. Tiago Mendes remains on the sidelines with a long-term injury as well.

Five consecutive wins

Sevilla continue where they left last year. Los Sevillanos have been producing terrific displays at home ground, but they have yet to record a win on the travels in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. Unai Emery’s men are eager to put an end to the negative trend, but, with Atletico Madrid next, I do not believe that they are capable of starting a new winning run on the road on Matchday 21. Sevilla sit in seventh place in the standings and they are no less than eight points behind the Champions League places. Seeing that Unai Emery’s men are playing on three fronts in the 2015/2016 campaign and given their poor away record, I would not be surprised if they fail to finish the season in top four. Fernando Llorente has been playing below expectations, but fellow attacker Kevin Gameiro is in form of his life and the French forward is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Gameiro has netted 14 goals in all competitions this season.

Midfielder Vicente Iborra is sidelined through suspension, while Nico Pareja and Marco Andreolli have yet to overcome their respective injuries. Ever Banega returns to the starting line-up after coming from the bench in a 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Mirandes.

Quick Facts

  • Atletico Madrid are after their sixth clean sheet at home ground in La Liga
  • Los Rojiblancos are on a five-match winning run at their Estadio Vicente Calderon
  • Sevilla have drawn five games on the road this season
  • Los Sevillanos recorded their last win at “Calderon” back in 2010
  • Unai Emery’s men failed to beat Atletico in previous 12 meetings between the two teams

Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla betting tip

Atletico Madrid need to keep on winning if they are to regain La Liga title. Los Rojiblancos have been impressive in the national championship of late and seeing that Sevilla struggle on the travels, there is every chance the hosts will pick up all three points from the match. When the two sides met at “Pizjuan” in the reverse fixture Atletico recorded a routine 3-0 win over Sevilla.

Tip: Atletico Madrid to win
