England vs Netherlands prediction

High-flying England take on Netherlands hoping to end their negative run against the Oranje. Holland have been rather productive on their travels in the last couple of matches and will want to make amends for the loss against France in the previous fixture.

The Three Lions are on the rise

Even though they were flawless in the Euro 2021 qualifying round, Roy Hodgson’s men wanted to prove their worth against a top-flight team and they managed to come back after being two behind Germany, mostly thanks to Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy (3-2). The morale-boosting triumph most certainly raised the spirits of the Three Lions, and now they await Holland, hoping to arrest the negative trend against the Oranje. Fraser Forster returned to the national team, but failed to keep his net intact and had to pull two out of his goal, but England forwards displayed outstanding performance in the last half hour to secure an important victory. It seems that Hodgson finally has enough quality attackers who can guarantee a respectable result in France this summer, but there is still some work to be done in the last line of defense, although they recorded clean sheets in six of their last seven home matches. England won all fixtures on home soil since September 2014, which is why the fans hope for an eighth straight victory. Judging by the current form of Premier League leading scorers, the three Lions are on the right track to achieve a first home triumph over Netherlands since 1982.

Forster could be the starting goalkeeper in the following match. Danny Drinkwater is hoping to finally earn his first cap for the national team. Ross Barkley and Jamie Vardy both expect to start the game from the beginning this time out, while Daniel Sturridge and James Milner should be given a chance at some point of the fixture.

The Oranje started 2016 with a defeat

Danny Blind’s charges were minutes away from sharing the spoils with the Tricolores, but Blaise Matuidi secured a triumph for France two minutes before full time. Griezmann and Giroud opened the game with two quick goals, but Luuk de Jong and Ibrahim Affelay managed to get their team back in the game. Just two minutes after Affelay’s goal, with the home fans still celebrating the leveler, Martial managed to find Matuidi, who hit the winner, leaving Holland defeated once again on home turf. The Oranje now travel to England, hoping to repeat the result from their previous visit, when they defeated the Three Lions, but this time Robben is out of the squad, while Huntelaar is far from his best form. Holland did record back-to-back triumphs on their previous two away fixtures against Kazakhstan and Wales, but it will take much more to defeat red-hot England. Taking under consideration that Blind is still forming the team for World Cup qualifiers, a share of spoils in the forthcoming match should be considered as a positive result.

Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen broke his nose in training, so Danny Blind called Tottenham’s Michel Worm as a replacement. Van Ginkel was called to take the place of Ajax captain Davy Klaassen, who suffered a knee injury, while Wesley Sneijder is ruled out because of a hamstring injury. Ibrahim Affelay, who scored an equalizer for Holland, could start the match against England, as well as Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum.

Quick Facts

  • England are on a six-game winless run against Netherlands
  • The Three Lions recorded their last home triumph over Holland in 1982
  • Roy Hodgson’s men lost just one of their previous eighteen fixtures (W14 D3)
  • The Oranje have been blowing hot and cold of late
  • More than 2.5 goals were scored in their last two encounters

England vs Netherlands betting tip

England are still searching for their first triumph against Netherlands in this century and, judging by their current form, we can honestly consider them as favorites in the upcoming encounter. Holland are far from a top-flight team they used to be in the past, which s why I expect a certain victory for the hosts this Tuesday night.

Tip: England to win
