Carlisle United vs Everton prediction

Everton will be aiming to recover from a heartbreaking 3-1 loss to Manchester City when they square off against Carlisle United in the FA Cup last 32. The Toffees aim to stop the run of four game without a win as well, but they will have to prove their worth on the field.

Lucky win over Yeovil Town

Carlisle United kicked off their FA Cup campaign with a 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle. The Cumbrians then outclassed Welling United on the road, but the team experienced all sorts of problems in the tie against Yeovil Town. Following a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road, Keith Curle’s men defeated the fellow League Two side on penalties in the replay and they now face Everton in the FA Cup last 32. Jabo Ibehre is the team’s top scorer and all eyes will be on the 33-year-old attacker when the two sides take on each other at Brunton Park. It has been 41 years since Carlisle United recorded their last win over Everton and the hosts are hoping that history is going to repeat itself on Sunday. You should have in mind that the Cumbrians suffered a 2-1 loss to Sunderland in their last meeting with a Premier League side in the FA Cup (2013).

Defender Danny Grainger is sidelined with injury, but coach Keith Curle has no other injury worries ahead of the visit of Everton. Alex Gilliead is pushing for a start.

Focus on the FA Cup

Everton have been struggling to find their form of late. Following a 2-1 loss to relegation-threatened Swansea City in the Premier League the Toffees failed to defend their slim lead in the Capital One Cup semi-final, return leg, against Manchester City and they are now on a four-match winless run in all competitions. Romelu Lukaku has been misfiring of late and no doubt his poor form is the main reason why Roberto Martinez’s men struggle in all competitions. Lukaku failed to score in previous four matches in all competitions and there is every chance he will be rested against Carlisle United. In his absence, Arouna Kone should lead the attack for the Premier League team and you should bear in mind that the former Wigan Athletic striker has netted six goals in all competitions this season. Everton eliminated Dag & Red in the FA Cup last 64 and they are widely expected to make it to the next round.

Kevin Mirallas is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day, while the likes of Muhamed Besic, Tony Hibbert and Tyias Browning all miss the FA Cup game with injury. Steven Pienaar, who has recently recovered from a long-term injury, is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Carlisle United are on a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions
  • The Cumbrians failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four game
  • Everton suffered only one loss in last eight away matches
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in Everton’s last three games
  • The Toffees scored 1+ goals in each of their last seven FA Cup fixtures

Carlisle United vs Everton betting tip

Everton suffered elimination in the Capital One Cup, meaning that they will give their best to try and beat Carlisle United in the FA Cup last 32. Roberto Martinez is likely to mix the squad against the League Two side, but regardless of which players will be deployed in the starting XI, I believe that away win should be considered this time out.

Tip: Everton to win
