Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis prediction

Real Betis will be looking to defend their two-goal lead in the Copa del Rey tie against Sporting Gijon when the two teams take on each other at Estadio Municipal El Molinon on Tuesday night. Los Rojiblancos face an uphill task in the return leg, but everything is possible.

Five defeats in previous six matches

Sporting Gijon impressed in the 2014/2015 Segunda Division campaign and they totally deserved to secure promotion to the Spanish top flight. Los Rojiblancos aim to secure the elite division survival, but they are on a very difficult quest in the 2015/2016 Primera Division campaign. Coach Abelardo, who was born and raised in Gijon, is still in charge of the team, but it has to be noted that his men have suffered five losses in last six matches in all competitions. Sporting Gijon head into Tuesday’s Copa del Rey game against Real Betis following a 2-0 Sevilla, but you should have in mind that the relegation strugglers were on the verge of sharing the spoils with the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan outfit. Anyhow, Abelardo’s team face an uphill task in the game against los Beticos as they need to overcome a two-goal deficit (0-2) if they are to make it to the next round.

Important attacker Sanabria has yet to overcome his injury. Luis Hernandez and Bernardo will both have to serve their bans against Eibar in la Liga, but they could play some part in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey match.

Los Beticos with one foot in last 16

Thanks to a routine 2-0 win over Sporting Gijon in the first leg Real Betis moved one step closer to booking their place in Copa del Rey last 16. The Andalusian outfit are on a quest to defend their big lead in Tuesday’s clash at Estadio Municipal El Molinon, but coach Pepe Mel should warn his men against complacency. Real Betis have been impressive at the back of late and they were on the verge of playing out a goalless draw with Las Palmas at the weekend, but los Amarillos eventually scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the match. Los Beticos are on the right track to secure Primera Division survival, but they want to record a good result in the Spanish Cup as well. Pepe Mel’s team have conceded only two goals in previous five matches in all competitions and no doubt the visitors will rely on their solid defence in Tuesday’s game against Sporting Gijon.

The likes of Rennella and Digard both miss the trip to Gijon with injury, while Dani Ceballos and Bruno Gonzalez are both available for selection after missing the Las Palmas game through suspension.

Quick Facts

  • Sporting Gijon recorded their last win over Real Betis at “El Molinon” back in 2012
  • Abelardo’s team have conceded nine goals in previous five games in La Liga
  • Los Rojiblancos failed to score in four of their last six matches
  • Real Betis have kept three clean sheets in previous five away matches in La Liga
  • Los Beticos have defeated Sporting Gijon in three of their last four meetings
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Betis’ previous five away league games

Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis betting tip

Reports in Spain suggest that both Pepe Mel and Abelardo will mix their squads on Tuesday evening, but given Sporting Gijon’s poor form, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on Real Betis. Los Rojiblancos do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment and I would not be surprised if they suffer yet another loss to los Beticos in the 2015/2016 Copa del Rey campaign.

Tip: Real Betis not to lose
