Middlesbrough vs Wolves prediction

Middlesbrough will be looking to regain their place in top two with a win over Wolverhampton in Friday’s Championship derby. The Wolves defeated Derby County at the weekend and their fresh confidence will be tested in the clash against Boro.

Boro eyeing 12th home win of the season

Middlesbrough dropped to the Championship back in 2009 and they have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since. The club chiefs added a number of high-profile players to the squad in the last two transfer windows and it remains to be seen if their decision is going to prove fruitful. Middlesbrough occupy third place in the Championship standings ahead of the visit of Wolverhampton, but a win over Wolves would see them regain their place in top two. Aitor Karanka has a number of top-class players to choose from and the likes of Jordan Rhodes and Stewart Downing are likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. The Boro have already recorded 11 wins at their Riverside Stadium, but Friday’s game against Wolves will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Middlesbrough are eyeing their fourth consecutive win over Wolverhampton and you should know that they scored six goals in previous two meetings with Kenny Jackett’s troops.

Aitor Karanka has no fresh injury worries ahead of Friday’s game against Wolves and the Spanish tactician is likely to field the best possible side in the Championship derby.

Four-game winless run on the road

Thanks to a 2-1 win over Derby County Wolverhampton put an end to their three-match losing run in the Championship. The Wolves regained a much-needed confidence and they will be looking to move a little closer to the play-offs berth with a win over Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. Kenny Jackett’s team are tough to beat at home, but they have been firing on all cylinders on the road in 2016. The team failed to score in previous four away fixtures in the Championship and that is probably the main reason why they are regarded as underdogs in Friday’s clash against Middlesbrough. The Wolves are 12 points behind the play-offs places, meaning that they will have to be at the top of their game in March if they are to keep their hopes of booking their place in top six alive. A man to watch in the away side will be George Saville, who scored a brace in the 2-1 win over Derby County.

The likes of Nouha Dicko, Kortney Hause and Jordan Graham are all sidelined with injury, but there are no suspended players in the away team. Coach Kenny Jackett is likely to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Quick Facts

  • Middlesbrough are after their fourth straight win over Wolves
  • Boro failed to keep a clean sheet in previous four home fixtures
  • Aitor Karanka’s team are eyeing their 12th consecutive win at home
  • Wolverhampton are on a four-game winless run on the road
  • Wolves failed to score in previous three away fixtures

Middlesbrough vs Wolves betting tip

Middlesbrough failed to impress in the 2-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers in midweek, but it is well known that the Boro produce much better performances in front of home fans. Aitor Karanka has a full squad to choose from and given Wolverhampton’s poor away record, there is every chance the hosts will pick up all three points from the match. In their last meeting at Riverside Stadium Middlesbrough emerged triumphant (2-1).

Tip: Middlesbrough to win
