Middlesbrough vs Reading prediction

Middlesbrough will be looking to strengthen their grip on second place in the Championship standings with a win over mid-table Reading when the two teams take on each other at Riverside Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Four wins in a row

Middlesbrough suffered a dip in form in March, with the team losing back-to-back matches against the likes of Rotherham United and Charlton Athletic, but Aitor Karanka’s team quickly got back on course. David Nugent scored a late winner in the 1-0 triumph over Hull City on March 18 and that goal certainly helped the team regain a much-needed confidence. Middlesbrough then recorded three consecutive wins over the likes of QPR, Huddersfield Town and Preston and they will be looking to cement their spot in top two with a victory over Reading on Tuesday evening. The Boro managed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four home fixtures and it has to be noted that Aitor Karanka’s team are eyeing their sixth consecutive win at their Riverside Stadium. Gaston Ramirez has been scoring goals for fun of late and all eyes will be on the Uruguayan attacker when Middlesbrough face the Royals on Matchday 32.

Jonathan Woodgate misses the match with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Jordan Rhodes, who has netted two goals for Boro this season, is likely to be deployed up front as a lone forward.

Little to play for

Reading are stuck in the middle of the Championship standings ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough. The Royals are 17 points behind the play-offs berth and they are 14 points clear of the relegation zone. Brian McDermott’s team suffered a 2-0 loss to Birmingham City at the weekend and they will be looking to bounce back from the defeat when they square off against Aitor Karanka’s troops at the Riverside Stadium. Reading have little to play for in Tuesday’s clash against the promotion-chasing team and I do not believe that away win should be considered this time out. The Royals defeated Middlesbrough in their last meeting at the Riverside Stadium, but the situation has changed a lot ever since. Brian McDermott’s men do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment and they will be more than happy with one point from Tuesday’s match.

Robson-Kanu remains a doubt, but Michael Hector has overcome his injury and he is pushing for a start. Yann Kermorgant is widely expected to lead the line for the visitors against Middlesbrough.

Quick Facts

  • Reading are undefeated in last four meetings with Middlesbrough
  • Boro failed to score in previous four encounters against Reading
  • Middlesbrough are eyeing their sixth consecutive win at home
  • Reading suffered four defeats in last six away games
  • Royals failed to keep a clean sheet in 15 of their last 16 away fixtures

Middlesbrough vs Reading betting tip

Middlesbrough are determined to return to the Premier League, where they obviously belong, and Tuesday’s game against Reading could be crucial for the Boro in their quest for automatic promotion to the English top flight. The Royals have been struggling on the road this season and despite the fact that they are unbeaten in last four meetings with Aitor Karanka’s men, I do not believe that the visitors are capable of spoiling Boro’s party at the Riverside Stadium.

Tip: Middlesbrough to win
