Wolfsburg vs PSV Eindhoven prediction

Volkswagen Arena will host Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Wolfsburg and PSV. The Wolves aim to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Manchester United and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their second home win in Group B.

Wolves look sharp on home soil

Wolfsburg chiefs did not make too many changes to the squad in the summer transfer window, but key player Kevin de Bruyne joined big-spending Manchester City side just few days before the window closed. However, the club owners did well to sign the likes of Max Kruse and Julian Draxler in the summer and the duo certainly helped the team improve their game. Dieter Hecking’s men defeated CSKA at home in the opening match of their Champions League campaign, but they failed to grab something from the Old Trafford clash against Manchester United. Anyhow, it has to be noted that Wolfsburg created a number of clear-cut opportunities to score in the 2-1 loss to the Red Devils. Max Kruse scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Hoffenheim at the weekend and the summer signing will be the man to watch in the home team in Wednesday’s clash against PSV. The former M’gladbach ace is eager to open his goal-scoring account in the Champions League.

Luiz Gustavo returns to the starting line-up after missing the Manchester United game. The likes of Felipe Lopes and Robin Knoche are both doubtful for the match.

Hot and cold

PSV did remarkably well to beat star-studded Manchester United in the opening match of their Champions League campaign. However, the Dutch champions had a much bigger fish to fry against CSKA in Moscow and, as a result, they failed to grab something from the match (2-3). On the other hand, Phillip Cocu’s men outplayed their fiercest rivals Ajax in the Eredivisie derby and rejoined the race for the domestic title. It is well known that PSV are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but the team’s away record in the Champions League is anything but impressive. The Dutch outfit have suffered five losses in six away fixtures in the elite competition and it is no surprise they are considered underdogs in Wednesday’s encounter against Wolfsburg. Luuk de Jong is the team’s top scorer and he is widely expected to lead the attack for the visitors against Wolfsburg when the two teams take on each other at Volkswagen Arena on Wednesday evening.

Florian Jozefsoon and Jetro Willems are both sidelined with injury, while Santiago Arias misses the trip to Germany through suspension. Philipp Cocu is likely to stick to the 4-3-3 formation, with the likes of Narsingsh, de Jong and Lestienne up front.

Wolfsburg vs PSV Eindhoven betting tip

As I have already mentioned, PSV are not regarded as good travelers and seeing that Wolfsburg impressed in their last home fixture in Bundesliga, I believe that there is a big value on the German outfit this time out. The Wolves have been impressive on home soil this term and they are widely expected to record their second home win in the 2015/2021 Champions League campaign. It has to be noted that the two sides have never met before in the elite competition.
