Head to head record

Wolfsburg vs Real Madrid 2-0 (2015/2016 Champions League)

Real Madrid vs Wolfsburg prediction

After experiencing all sorts of problems in the first leg, Real Madrid will have to record a big win over Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final, return leg if they are to advance to the semi-finals of the elite competition.

All-out attack

Against all odds, Real Madrid suffered a 2-0 loss to Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg. Los Blancos were totally outplayed by the Bundesliga outfit in Germany, but the Spanish giants should not be written off just yet. Zinedine Zidane’s men are a real force to be reckoned with at home and, no doubt, his men will leave their hearts on the field in order to overcome the deficit in front of home fans. Real Madrid head into the match against Wolfsburg following a routine 4-0 win over Eibar at their Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and it has to be noted that Cristiano Ronaldo extended his goal-scoring run in the national championship. CR7 has been scoring goals for fun in 2016 and the team’s top scorer is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Los Blancos have been impressive at home ground of late and they are widely expected to record their fifth consecutive win at “Bernabeu” in all competitions. Karim Benzema has overcome his injury and the French attacker should lead the line for the hosts against Wolfsburg.

Sergio Ramos missed the Eibar game through suspension, but he returns to the starting line-up, while Raphael Varane should recover in time to face Wolfsburg. Karim Benzema is fit, meaning that Zinedine Zidane should field the best possible side against Dieter Hecking’s troops.

Just one more step

Wolfsburg showed character in the Volkwagen Arena clash and they totally deserved to beat star-studded Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, first leg. The Wolves, though, have yet to get their job done and they can’t afford any complacency in Tuesday’s clash at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Important centre back Naldo returned to the starting line-up against Real Madrid and it is more than obvious that he is playing a very important role in Dieter Hecking’s team. To make things even better for the Germans, key attacker Bas Dost has recovered from his long-term injury as well, but the lack of fitness might prove to be the biggest problem for the Dutch striker in Tuesday’s match against Zinedine Zidane’s charges. Anyhow, the Wolves face an uphill task in the return leg and they are likely to adopt a defence-minded approach as they are desperate to defend their two-goal lead in the tie against the Spanish giants.

Sebastian Jung should miss the game with injury, while Daniel Caligiuri is unlikely to recover in time to face Real Madrid. Bas Dost is fit and he should play some part in Tuesday’s game against los Blancos.

Quick Facts

  • Real Madrid scored 15 goals in last four home fixtures
  • Los Blancos are after their fifth consecutive clean sheet
  • Real Madrid scored 1+ goals in last 28 home games in the CL
  • Wolfsburg failed to score in last two away matches in Bundesliga
  • Wolves conceded 2+ goals in four of their last five away games in the CL

Real Madrid vs Wolfsburg betting tip

Real Madrid are a real force to be reckoned with at home and given that Zinedine Zidane is likely to field his “golden starting XI” against Wolfsburg, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the La Liga team this time out. The Wolves often struggle on the travels and, taking everything into account, Real Madrid should record a routine win over the German outfit this time out.
