Team News

Important players Leo Messi, Sergio Aguero and Fernando Gago were omitted of the Argentina squad for qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia through injury, while Pablo Zabaleta and Ezequiel Garay were forced to withdraw at a later date.

Defenders Gino Peruzzi (4/0) and Jonathan Maidana (2/0) were drafted into the squad subsequently, but there have since been even more selection worries for La Albiceleste coach Gerardo Martino.

After suffering a knee injury in the Argentine Cup final, Carlos Tevez is almost certain to miss out, whereas it looks as though Javier Pastore will not be fit to start either.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Romero – Roncaglia, Otamendi, Demichelis, Mas – Biglia, Mascherano, Banega – Di Maria, Higuain, Correa.

Defenders Marcelo and Marquinhos were forced to pull out of the Brazil squad, with uncapped Arsenal stopper Gabriel Paulista and newcomer Atletico Mineiro’s Douglas Santos called to replace them.

The good news is that PSG centre-back David Luiz has recovered from injury and he is widely expected to start, whereas Lucas Lima is likely to be preferred to Oscar in the middle of the park.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Alisson – Alves, Luiz, Miranda, Filipe Luis – Elias, Luiz Gustavo – Willian, Lucas Lima, Douglas Costa – Neymar.
