Lazio close to signing Marko Basa

Il Corriere dello Sport has learned that Lazio are stepping up their efforts to sign Montenegrin defender Marko Basa from Lille.

The Biancocelesti have made signing an experienced centre-back the priority in the upcoming transfer window with their back line in all sorts of problems after Stefan de Vrij had suffered an injury.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio look set to launch an assault on Lille’s Marko Basa, who should be able to slot straight into the starting line-up at Stadio Olimpico.

The 32-year-old may have a contract until June 2019, but he has reportedly clashed with the club over the lack of playing time and is likely to be allowed to leave in January.

Marko Basa has been widely regarded as one of Ligue 1’s leading central defenders for several years now, while he also amassed 13 Champions League outings for les Dogues.

Lazio do have a plan B in case they fail to lure the Montenegrin to Rome, with Udinese’s Thomas Heurtaux also on their radar.
