Benfica sign Greece striker Kostas Mitroglou on loan

Championship side Fulham have confirmed Greece attacker Kostas Mitroglou has joined Portuguese champions Benfica on loan.

The former Olympiakos man signed a deal with the Cottagers in January which was worth no less than £12m.

However, the 27-year-old footballer made no more than three appearances for the Championship side as he was struggling with injury.

Kostas Mitroglou is eager to play in the top flight and his wish is to play for the Cottagers in the Premier League next year.

“It’s not disappointing. All along he’s been open and straight and said he wanted to play for Fulham if we were in the Premier League. He’s said all along he doesn’t want to play in the Championship.

“He’s enjoyed himself on the training camp this summer and hopefully he will get his wish, we’ll get promoted, and he can play for Fulham in the Premier League next year.”, Fulham manager Kit Symons said.

Mitroglou has 40 caps for Greece and it has to be noted that he scored eight goals for the national team.
