Argentine striker Marcelo Larrondo is widely expected to represent Chile at international level, according to the latest reports.
The Rosario Central star is eligible to play for La Roja due to the fact that his father was born in the country, and former national team coach Jorge Sampaoli earlier talked to the player about the possibility of playing for Chile.
Larrondo is now tipped to receive his first ever Chile call-up as new coach Juan Antonio Pizzi is set to include him in the squad for 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Venezuela.
Rosario Central chairman Raul Broglia went to confirm that there are no obstacles to the 27-year-old playing for La Roja.
“We presented the idea and took care of the paperwork, which I believe is completed,” Broglia said to reporters.
“Is he interested in playing for Chile? If he is called, he will accept.”
Marcelo Larrondo has impressed ever since he joined Rosario Central from Torino, scoring 10 goals in 15 league appearances.
And with Chile lacking back-up for Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas, chances are he will be given the opportunity to prove his worth in the red shirt.
La Roja face certain selection problems ahead of the games vs Argentina and Venezuela, seeing that Arturo Vidal is banned for the first game and Charles Aranguiz and Jorge Valdivia are out injured.
Celta Vigo midfielder Pablo Hernandez is likely to miss out as well after picking up a knee injury in weekend’s clash with Real Madrid.
