Chile hotshot Charles Aranguiz will not be making his Bayer Leverusen debut any time soon after suffering a serious injury in training on Thursday.
After watching the first two matches of the season from the bench, the 26-year-old was widely tipped to be handed his debut in weekend’s clash with Hannover, where die Werkself are 1.85 (17/20) to claim maximum points, but it was just not to be.
The highly rated footballer tore the Achilles tendon in his left leg and is now set to undergo a surgery and spend at least a couple of months on the sidelines.
“We are all very concerned and suffer with him, of course. Charles was very excited about his first Bundesliga match to come in Hannover on Saturday,” Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Völler told the club’s website.
“We will do everything to ensure Charles comes back as soon as possible after this injury.”
This means that Aranguiz will miss the September 5 international friendly vs Paraguay, while he is also out for the first two 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Brazil national team and Peru.
Former Fiorentina midfielder David Pizarro had earlier withdrawn from the squad and it remains to be seen whether Jorge Sampaoli will now call a replacement.
