Romania confirm interest in Mircea Lucescu

Romanian Football Federation (FRF) chairman Razvan Burleanu has revealed that he will attempt to persuade Mircea Lucescu to take over the reigns of the national team.

Despite the fact that Anghel Iordanescu took the team to the Euro 2021, the national team bosses are not entirely happy with his work and are almost certain to let him leave after the tournament finals.

And it appears that FRF are ready to launch a fresh assault on arguably Romania’s leading coach Mircea Lucescu.

“It is the thought that we have,” FRF president Razvan Burleanu told Digi Sport. “I do not know if Mr. Lucescu will agree to such a long-term project.”

Romania have already attempted to hire the highly rated tactician to take over the reigns of the national team, but Shakhtar Donetsk owner Rinat Akhmetov didn’t want to part ways with his favourite coach.

However, considering that Lucescu’s current deal expires in the summer, there is a chance he will consider the offer from FRF.

Romania have been placed in Group A at the Euro 2021 alongside hosts France, Switzerland and Albania, and they will take part in the tournament’s opening fixture on 10 June.
