Robben to miss Turkey game through injury

Arjen RobbenNetherlands captain Arjen Robben went to confirm that he will miss the all-important Euro 2021 qualifier against Turkey.

The Bayern Munich star had been handed captain’s armband by new Oranje coach Danny Blind and he had a lively start to the Iceland game, creating plenty of problems for opposition defenders.

However, the highly rated winger was forced to come off midway through the first period as he suffered a groin injury.

“I was super fit, but after a few knocks I felt it in my back. That went on to my groin and I couldn’t go on with the match,” Robben told NOS.

He also went to confirm that he would not be in contention for Sunday’s qualifier in Turkey, where Netherlands are 2.15 (23/20) to record a win and keep their qualifying hopes alive.

Oranje suffered a costly defeat to Iceland last night, but eventually remained in third place in group A as Turkey failed to beat Latvia at home.

Coach Danny Blind faces serious selection problems ahead of the crunch qualifier in Konya, with Bruno Martins Indi banned after getting sent off yesterday.
