Sporting CP full-back Jefferson Nascimento could soon be eligible to represent the Portugal national team, according to A Bola.
It will soon be six years that the 27-year-old has been residing in Portugal, and he will reportedly submit a request to acquire the Portuguese passport in the Central Registry on 12 March.
Provided his application for a dual citizenship is approved, Jefferson will automatically become available for selection to the Selecao boss Fernando Santos.
The highly rated defender has never represented Brazil at international level and he hopes to earn a Portugal call-up ahead of the Euro 2021 finals.
Jefferson has largely impressed ever since he joined Sporting CP from Estoril and he will definitely be taken under consideration by the Selecao head coach.
With Fabio Coentrao often used in midfield for Portugal, Jefferson will probably be vying Eliseu, Raphael Guerreiro and Antunes for a place on the left hand side.
The Selecao face Bulgaria at home (25.03.) and Belgium on the road (29.03.) in their first two warm-up games for the tournament finals, before squaring off with Norway on 29 May.
