Germany coach Joachim Low has decided to rule full-back Kevin Grosskreutz out of contention for the country’s Euro 2021 squad.
After failing to complete his registration with Galatasaray before the Turkish Super Lig deadline, Grosskreutz returned to Bundesliga side Stuttgart earlier this month, but the fact that he has not played for a year and a half proved fatal for the former Borussia Dortmund man.
Joachim Low says Grosskreutz’s chances of participating at Euro 2021 are slim as the Germany boss is not satisfied with the way the winger has handled his career.
“He hasn’t played for a year and a half now. I was at Istanbul and talked with the Galatasaray coach, who told me that Kevin flew home nearly every weekend from Friday to Sunday. You don’t do that when you are part of a team.”
“I have limited comprehension over how he has handled his career”, said Joachim Low.
Germany have been drawn alongside Ukraine, Poland and Northern Ireland in Group C at Euro 2021. The Germans will face England on 26 March at Olympiastadion Berlin in March in their first warm-up game, before playing Italy three days later.
