Gareth Bale to miss Northern Ireland, Ukraine friendlies

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has suffered another injury set-back that is likely to keep him out of Wales’ two friendly international matches against Northern Ireland and Ukraine, respectively.

The Welsh winger will miss the next three weeks through calf injury and members of the Wales coaching staff are unsure if Real Madrid player will be available to take part in the forthcoming games.

Bale has not featured for los Blancos since sustaining his injury in the 5-1 win over Sporting Gijon in January. The Welsh star had opened the scoring, but then limped off later in the game with his injury.

Wales assistant manager Osian Roberts claims Gareth Bale will not be rushed back into return as the most important thing is for the 26-year-old to fully recover and avoid recurrence of the problem.

The Dragons host Northern Ireland at Cardiff City stadium on 24 March and travel to Kiev for their Ukraine clash four days later as part of their 2016 European Championship finals preparations.

Gareth Bale and his team have been pitted against England, Russia and Slovakia in Group B and face a tough task in getting through to the knockout stages of the Euro 2021.
