Tomi Juric doubtful for Australia’s World Cup qualifiers

Australia attacker Tomi Juric suffered a knee injury while training with Eredivisie team Roda JC, and it remains to be seen if he will recover in time to play for the Socceroos in March World Cup qualifiers.

Reports in Australia suggest that the 24-year-old striker could be out of contention for six weeks, meaning that he is doubtful for matches against Tajikistan and Jordan.

Tomi Juric picked up the injury at the club’s winter training camp in Portugal and he was immediately sent back home where scans revealed a torn lateral ligament in his knee.

The former Western Sydney Wanderers attacker has netted four goals for Roda in the 2015/2021 Eredivisie campaign to date and it has to be noted that he has earned 15 caps for the national team so far.

Juric, whose contract at the club is due to expire, did not take part at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil where Australia suffered an early exit.

Australia sit in top position in their 2018 World Cup qualifying group, having won five games, while losing one in the process.
