Genoa vs Palermo prediction

Sunday’s game at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris pits together Genoa and Palermo. The two teams take on each other in the relegation six-pointer and a win on Matchday 21 would help each of the two teams move away from the danger zone in the Serie A standings.

Fresh confidence

Thanks to a 2-0 win at Atalanta Genoa put an end to their six-game losing run in the Serie A. The Rossoblu returned to winning ways, but their top flight status remains in danger. Sunday’s clash against fellow relegation strugglers Palermo could be crucial for the hosts in their battle for the Serie A survival and no doubt Gian Piero Gasperini’s troops will fight tooth and nail against the Rosanero. Genoa are on a three-match losing run at home ground, with the team suffering a 3-2 loss to their fiercest rivals Sampdoria in their last home fixture. The Rossoblu, though, have already recovered from the defeat and they will be looking to build on the win over Atalanta when they square off against Palermo on Sunday. Leonardo Pavoletti found the net against Orobici, meaning that the opposition defenders should have him at bay in the upcoming relegation six-pointer.

Alassane Tambe is sidelined with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Atalanta at the weekend.

Important win in the “City of Love”

Palermo suffered a 3-1 loss to Fiorentina in their first match of the new year, but the relegation-threatened side quickly recovered from the defeat as they recorded a 1-0 win over Hellas Verona at “Bentegodi” at the weekend. The Rosanero are four points clear of the relegation zone, but they need to keep on raising their form if they are to secure the elite division survival. New boss Fabio Viviani is helping the team regain a much-needed confidence and no doubt the visitors are capable of grabbing something from Sunday’s game against Genoa. Alberto Gilardino is not as sharp as he used to be in the past, but the experienced attacker is widely expected to lead the line for the Sicilian outfit against the Rossoblu. Palermo are not regarded as good travelers, but you should have in mind that they are eyeing their fourth away win of the season. The Rosanero managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their three away wins.

Vitiello is definitely sidelined with injury, while Bolzoni is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day. Coach Viviano has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Genoa.

Quick Facts

  • Rossobu failed to beat Palermo in previous five meetings in Serie A
  • Genoa conceded six goals in previous three home games
  • Rossanero are after their third consecutive win over Genoa
  • Palermo failed to score in three of their last five away games in the league
  • The Sicilians are after their first ever win over Rossoblu at Stadio Comuale Luigi Ferraris

Genoa vs Palermo betting tip

Both sides badly need a win and I am positive that we will see a lively contest at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris. However, seeing that Palermo do not suit Genoa, I do not believe that home win should be considered this time out. The Rosanero head into the match following the win over Verona and, taking everything into account, I would not be surprised if the Sicilian outfit record their first ever win over Genoa at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

Tip: Palermo not to lose
