Sampdoria vs Hellas Verona prediction

The early fixture of Sunday’s match programme in Serie A will see struggling Sampdoria host Verona in their bid to end the recent poor run of results.

Eder’s solo mission

Sampdoria are on a three-game winless streak, having collected only one point out of nine in the taking. Their last 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Frosinone away has been particularly disturbing and Blucerchiati now find themselves at the 12th place in the standings with 11 points after eight rounds. It has been over a month since Walter Zenga’s men have recorded their last win. Having beaten Roma 2-1 in September, Sampdoria have been struggling to find their pace ever since. Italian forward Eder has been the only bright spot in Zenga’s team. The 28-year-old has netted six times in eight games, but his teammates failed to support him the right way, particularly in defence which remains the weakest line of Zenga’s team. Blucerchiati have had just one clean sheet this term and that really is an issue that requires addressing. Antonio Cassano seems to have found some good form and will be expected to step up in this important fixture for his team. Zenga will rely on tradition as his team hold the advantage over Verona in head-to-head games since 2011, having beaten the Sunday’s opposition four times, drawing twice and managing only one defeat in the process.

Samp manager is faced with a selection headache as six of his players are stuck in the medical room. Edgar Barreto, Nenad Krsticic, Andrea Coda, Matias Silvestre, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos and Djamel Mesbah are all ruled out with injuries.

Winless Verona

The Mastini remain the only team in Serie A without a single win this term. They currently sit in 18th place with five points next to their name, two of which were collected in the last two league games against Chievo away (1-1) and versus Udinese at home (1-1). Having lost to Inter and Lazio before that, back-to-back draws can be considered good results for the struggling Verona. Manager Andrea Mandrolini is under huge pressure to collect points against Sampdoria and this game could be crucial regarding his future at the club. The Mastini are currently occupying the 18th position in Serie A standings and will be in for a tough relegation tussle against fellow strugglers Carpi and Bologna. Luka Toni’s knee injury he picked at the end of September has been a huge blow to Verona’s ambitions. The veteran striker is expected to return at the end of the year. Deputizing in his role is another experienced striker Giampaolo Pazzini. The Italian forward scored his first goal of the season against Udinese, having successfully converted a penalty kick, but he has been a far cry from the prolific Toni and will need to improve his scoring exploits in order to help his team survive the difficult time.

Mandrolini will be without Romulo and Luca Toni who are confirmed absentees. Federico Viviani, Pierluigi Gollini and Mohamed Fares haven’t recovered from their knocks and will also miss the Sunday encounter.

Sampdoria vs Hellas Verona betting tip

Desperate to collect all three points in this game, both rivals will give their best to record a win which will be an important boost for both Zenga’s and Mandrolini’s side. The hosts will have the home turf advantagewhich will come handy for the league’s top scorer Eder and I honestly don’t see Verona coming off of this game with a positive result under the belt.

Tip: Home win
