Napoli vs Bologna prediction

Napoli will be aiming to strengthen their grip on second place in the Serie A standings with a victory over Bologna on Matchday 34. The Neapolitans are unlikely to win Scudetto, but they will give their all to book a place in the Champions League group stages.

Higuain’s suspension – big blow for Napoli

As expected, Napoli recorded a 3-0 win over rock-bottom Hellas Verona on Matchday 32, but the Neapolitans experienced all sorts of problems in Saturday’s game against Inter. Top scorer Gonzalo Higuain was sorely missed in a 2-0 loss to the Nerazzurri and the bad news for the fans is that he has yet to serve his ban. In Higuain’s absence Manolo Gabbiadini will lead the line for the Partenopei against Bologna and it remains to be seen if he will pose a threat for the opposition defenders. Napoli sit in second place in the Serie A standings, nine points behind league leaders Juventus, meaning that their Scudetto dream is already over. The Neapolitans are now on a quest to clinch their place in the Champions League group stages and they are certainly capable of extending their winning run at home to four matches. Maurizio Sarri’s men are eyeing their 14th home win of the season, but the Rossoblu should not be written off just yet.

Gonzalo Higuain remains on the sidelines through suspension, but coach Maurizio Sarri has no fresh injury worries ahead of the visit of Bologna. Dries Mertens is pushing for a start.

Eight-game winless run

Bologna, on the other hand, have been totally out of form of late.  The Rossoblu are on an eight-game winless run in the Serie A and they have been slipping down the standings week by week. Roberto Donadoni’s men are seven points clear of the relegation zone ahead of the trip to Naples, meaning that they will have to be at their sharpest in the remainder of the season if they are to secure yet another top flight survival. Bologna attackers have been firing blanks in the second half of the season and it has to be noted that the team scored no more than one goal in last three league games. The Rossoblu face an uphill task in Tuesday’s clash against Napoli at Stadio San Paolo, but they outplayed the Partenopei in the reverse fixture and it remains to be seen if they are capable of making yet another major scalp on Matchday 34.

Mounier is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day, while the likes of Mattia Destro, Donsah, Morleo and Zuculini are all out of contention through injury.

Quick Facts

  • Napoli suffered their last loss at home in Serie A on 31 May, 2015 (Lazio)
  • The Neapolitans scored exactly three goals in each of their last three home games
  • Bologna are on an eight-match winless run in the league
  • Under 2.5 goals were score in Bologna’s last four league matches
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in each of last six meetings between the two teams

Napoli vs Bologna betting tip

Napoli are after their fourth consecutive at home in the Serie A and despite the fact that Gonzalo Higuain misses the match through suspension, I believe that the hosts are capable of picking up all three points from the game. The Rossoblu have been struggling to find their form of late and they are unlikely to spoil Napoli’s party at Stadio San Paolo.

Tip: Napoli/Napoli
