Lazio vs Verona prediction

Lazio continue to struggle with inconsistency and they head into their midweek match against Verona eager to end the three-game winless run in the league.

Injuries taking their toll

Lazio were forced to settle for a goalless draw at Genoa last Saturday as Stefano Pioli’s men failed to use their chances against the team from the bottom-half of the Serie A standings. Having won only one point at Luigi Ferraris, Lazio now have 33 points on their tally and are sitting in ninth, eleven points adrift of their city rivals AS Roma who are occupying the last European spot. I Biancocelesti had a good chance to claim the maximum three points against Genoa, but Stefano Mauri’s excellent effort from just outside the box hit the crossbar leaving Lazio largely disappointed with the outcome. Lazio are dealing with a lot of problem out of the pitch and the club’s fans got into the centre of attention last week when they racially abused Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The 21-year-old Senegalese was subjected to racial chants at the Olimpico last Wednesday and Lazio were subsequently fined and received a stadium ban for the next two home games.

Stefano Pioli is also faced with a lot of injury problems. The hosts will be without no less than ten players for the upcoming event. Stefan de Vrij, Ricardo Kishna, Lucas Biglia, Milan Bisevac, Stefan Radu, Antonio Candreva, Dusan Basta and Ogeniy Onazi are all injured, while Lazio is also without suspended Keita Balde and Marco Parolo.

Verona on the rise

Rock-bottom club of the Serie A have made a significant improvement over the last couple of weeks. Three consecutive draws against AS Roma, Genoa, and Torino, respectively, led to Verona’s first win of the season at the beginning of February. Verona managed to beat Atalanta 2-1 and get a huge morale boost, which even helped the team survive a visit from Inter last time out. Struggling Serie A title contender were held to an exciting 3-3 draw, which has earned Verona an important point in their relegation fight. Luigi Delneri’s men fought hard against Inter, managed to overturn the result after Murillo’s opener after only eight minutes in the game, and went on to score three until the hour-mark. However, lack of experience and individual quality against much better rivals has ultimately cost them the entire three points, as Inter managed to salvage a draw courtesy of Icardi and Perisic’s goals for the final 3-3 result. In-form Mastini are not without injury-laden Lazio and this game could offer another chance for Delneri’s men to close the gap behind Frosinone and Carpi in the relegation dugout.

Verona travel to Rome without Samuel Souprayen, Federico Viviani, Ante Rebic and Luca Siligardi, who are struggling with injuries.

Quick Facts

  • Lazio have no less than 10 players unavailable to the game against Verona
  • Pioli’s troops won just one of their last 6 matches in all competitions
  • Verona scored three goals in one game for the first time this season versus Inter
  • Mastini have won only one Serie A match this term
  • Lazio have never lost to Verona at home before

Lazio vs Verona betting tip

The hosts are struggling with numerous injuries and selection problems. Lazio are also in poor form, unlike their rivals Verona, who have regained self-confidence with a couple of positive results. We should be in for a close-knit competition which hosts cannot afford to lose, or draw.

Tip: Home win
