Chievo vs Napoli prediction

The Flying Donkeys are set to welcome high-flying Napoli in the closing fixture of Serie A matchday nine at their Stadio Bentegodi, with the Azzurri looking to extend the impressive run of results and place extra pressure on the league leaders.

Chievo want to end the winless run

Their last six games have seen Chievo record a single win, against Torino 1-0, and the Flying Donkeys are in a desperate need of the three points. Back-to-back draws against Sassuolo away (1-1) and Verona at home (1-1) have been paired with a disappointing last-gasp defeat at Genoa (3-2) who managed to secure all three points in the final seconds of the game through Tachtsidis. Chievo have dropped to the ninth place in the standings with 12 points, but are well aware that Napoli game will not be the perfect chance for adding additional points to the tally. Rolando Maran will be hoping Alberto Paloschi will be able to continue his fine form. The Italian forward has so far scored four goals in eight league games and will be expected to lead his team against Napoli. Chievo manager has made his side a well-organized striking unit with Valter Birsa and Riccardo Meggiorini forming a great partnership with the aforementioned Paloschi.

Unfortunate Fererico Mattiello has fractured his tibia yet again, just after he came back from a long spell on the sidelines and will be forced to go back to the medical room. Mariano Izco is another one on the injury list, while Perparim Hetemaj is not at his full fitness and could rested for the upcoming event.

Unstoppable Napoli

Partenopei have been on fire this season, as they are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions. Their solitary defeat came at the hands of minnows Sassuolo in the opening round of Serie A, and Maurizio Sarri has every right to be pleased with his team’s performances so far. Napoli have notched up five consecutive wins in all competitions, three in Serie A against the household names of Juventus (2-1), Milan away (4-0) and Fiorentina last week (2-1). Napoli have collected 15 points in eight games and are currently sitting 4th in the standings, three points short of table toppers Fiorentina. Knowing that Viola are facing Roma this weekend, a win over Chievo would see Napoli make another huge step in the title race. Switching to more attacking formation of 4-3-3 has paid off, as Sarri managed to get the best out of his players, with Lorenzo Insigne, Jorgino, Allan, Gonzalo Higuain and Kalidou Khoulibaly stepping under the spotlight. Insigne and Higuain have been the most prominent performers in the team, having scored six goals each in the league so far. The Argentine forward has added two more in the Coppa Italia and additional two he netted in three Europa League games this season, taking his tally to 10 goals across competitions.

Maurizio Sarri will be delighted to have all of his first-team players fit for the upcoming game, with the exception of Dries Mertens who is still recovering from his injury.

Chievo vs Napoli betting tip

Flying Donkeys have had a fantastic opening to the Serie A season, but have dropped a lot of points and are in difficult position as they welcome the in-form Napoli who will be eager to make an important win that could see them make another step towards to the top of the standings. Backing the visitors to take all the spoils would be a good choice.

Tip: Away win
