Atalanta vs Fiorentina prediction

Atalanta will be aiming to stop the run of ten matches without a win when they take on Fiorentina at their Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Sunday. The Orobici have been misfiring of late, while the Viola head into the match following a 2-1 win over Inter.

Last win on 6 December

Atalanta have yet to record a win in 2016. The Orobici are on a ten-game winless run at the moment and they head into Sunday’s game against Fiorentina following back-to-back goalless draws with the likes of Empoli and Sampdoria. Edoardo Reja’s men are desperate to put an end to the negative trend, but the match against the Viola will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Atalanta are seven points clear of the relegation zone and next week’s game against Carpi could be crucial for the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia outfit in their battle for survival. Edy Reja’s troops recorded their last league win on 6 December and given their poor form, I do not believe that home win should be considered. Experienced attacker Mauricio Pinilla is likely to lead the line for the hosts against Fiorentina.

Carlos Carmona misses the match through injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Coach Edy Reja is likely to stick to the 4-3-3 formation. Diamanti should keep his place in the starting XI.

Important victory over Inter

Fiorentina did remarkably well to come from behind and beat Inter at their Stadio Artemio Franchi at the weekend. The Viola managed to keeps their title hopes alive, but they are nine points behind Juventus ahead of the trip to Bergamo, with one game in hand. Paulo Sousa’s men are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s clash against Atalanta and it remains to be seen if they are capable of recording their sixth away win of the season. Fiorentina head into the match following a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League and tired legs could prove to a big problem for the visitors in Sunday’s clash. Croatian attacker Nikola Kalinic is enjoying a very successful season and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. The former came as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham, but coach Paulo Sousa is likely to field the best possible against Atalanta.

Marcos Alonso and Mauro Zarate are both out of contention through suspension, whilst Yohan Benalouane misses the match with injury. Coach Paulo Sousa has no other selection worries ahead of the Atalanta game.

Quick Facts

  • Atalanta are on a ten-match winless run in Serie A
  • Orobici failed to score in previous two league games
  • Fiorentina are eyeing their ninth consecutive win over Atalanta
  • Viola are on a six-game unbeaten run
  • Paulo Sousa’s troops scored nine goals in previous three meetings with Atalanta
  • Josip Ilicic, Joan Verdu and Borja Valero scored for Viola in the reverse fixture (3-0)

Atalanta vs Fiorentina betting tip

Atalanta have been struggling to find their form of late and considering that Fiorentina do not suit Edy Reja’s troops I do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts. Viola aim to stay in the race for the title and seeing that they outplayed Orobici in previous eight meetings between the two sides in all competitions, away win appears on the cards. In their last meeting in Bergamo Fiorentina recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Atalanta.

Tip: Fiorentina to win
