Newcastle vs Manchester City prediction

Newcastle will be looking to get their revenge on Manchester City for a heavy 6-1 loss in the reverse fixture when the two teams take on each other at St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening. The Citizens are eyeing a place in the Champions League and they are eager to build on an impressive 3-0 win over Chelsea.

Morale-boosting win over Swans

Newcastle United are not enjoying a season to remember. The Magpies were struggling under Steve McClaren and it remains to be seen if new coach Rafa Benitez is capable of helping the team secure the top flight survival. Newcastle are three points behind the safe zone, but it has to be noted that they have one game in hand. The Magpies proved their worth in a 3-0 win over Swansea City at the weekend and thanks to the triumph the team put an end to their seven-game winless run in the Premier League. Andros Townsend produced a fine display in the 3-0 win over Swansea and he is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up. Aleksandar Mitrovic came as a substitute in Saturday’s Premier League game, but the controversial Serbia international should lead the line for the hosts against Manchester City.

Goalkeepers Elliot and Krul remain on the sidelines. The likes of Janmaat, Coloccini, Steven Taylor are out of contention as well. Jonjo Shelvey is pushing for a start.

Fine form

Manchester City are on the right track to save the season. The Citizens have already won the Capital One Cup trophy and they did well to set up a meeting with Real Madrid in the Champions League semis by beating PSG in the two-legged tie. Manuel Pellegrini will not be in charge of the team next season, but the Chilean coach is eager to help the team book their place in the Champions League group stages. Thanks to a thrilling 3-0 win over Chelsea Man City climbed to third position in the Premier League standings and it has to be noted that the Citizens have been in a brilliant form of late. Newcastle United suit Manuel Pellegrini’s team, but the star-studded Etihad Stadium outfit will have to prove their worth on the field. Kun Aguero scored a hat-trick against Chelsea and the Argentine attacker is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition back line.

Vincent Kompany, Raheem Sterling and David Silva are all sidelined with injury, while Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy are unlikely to recover in time to face Newcastle United.

Quick Facts

  • Newcastle recorded only one win in last eight league games
  • Magpies scored 1+ goals in each of their last six home fixtures
  • Manchester City are on a three-game winning run in the Premier League
  • Man City recorded 13 wins in last 14 meetings with Newcastle United
  • The Citizens scored 11 goals in previous two encounters against Newcastle

Newcastle vs Manchester City betting tip

Manchester City enjoy playing against Newcastle United and considering that the Citizens hammered the Magpies in the first half of the season, there is every chance Manuel Pellegrini’s men will emerge triumphant in Tuesday’s game at St. James’ Park. Rafa Benitez’s men are desperate to survive in the English top flight, but they should not be looking for points in the clash against Man City.
