Manchester United vs Sunderland prediction

In-form Manchester United will be looking to extend their winning run to three matches when they host Sunderland at their Old Trafford on day seven of the new Premier League campaign. The Black Cats hit rock bottom and it remains to be seen if they are capable of upsetting the Red Devils at the “Theatre of Dreams” on Saturday.

Martial already paying off

Thanks to a hard-fought win (3-2) over Southampton at St. Marry’s Stadium Manchester United managed to melt Manchester City’s advantage in the standings to just two points. To make things even better for the fans, the Red Devils outplayed Ipswich Town (3-0) in the League Cup clash in midweek and the hosts are surely brimming with confidence ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against struggling Sunderland side. Deadline day signing Anthony Martial has been producing outstanding performances of late and the French rising star has already netted four goals for the Old Trafford outfit in all competitions. Manchester United are regarded as hot favourites to win the clash against Sunderland, but coach Louis van Gaal should warn his men against complacency. Wayne Rooney has yet to open his goal-scoring account in the national championship, but he managed to find the net in the 3-0 win over Ipswich Town on Wednesday and he will surely pose a big threat for the Black Cats.

Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay are both likely to return to the starting line-up. Phil Jones has overcome his respective injury and he could play some part against Sunderland. Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair are both sidelined with injury.

Stadium of Dark

Over the years Sunderland have established themselves as a bottom-table side in the Premier League. The Black Cats somehow managed to secure yet another top flight survival in the last season finale and they are on the same quest in the 2015/2021 campaign. New coach Dick Advocaat has yet to record a win with Sunderland and, as a result, his men sit in the last position in the Premier League standings ahead of the trip to Manchester. The Black Cats were totally outplayed by Manchester City in the Capital One Cup clash in midweek (1-4) and it has to be noted that they are on a three-game losing run at the moment. Jermaine Defoe is the team’s top scorer and he is widely expected to lead the line for the visitors against Manchester United, but scoring at Old Trafford is easier said than done.

Costel Pantilimon, Billy Jones, Jermain Defoe and Jordi Gomez are all likely to return to the starting XI. Younes Kaboul returns from suspension, but Adam Matthews misses the game with an ankle injury. DeAndre Yedlin is likely to start the match after producing a good display against Manchester City.

Manchester United vs Sunderland betting tip

Manchester United have been in a scintillating form of late. The Red Devils aim to climb to the top position in the Premier League standings and seeing that Louis van Gaal rested some of his key players against Ipswich Town, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the English giants this time out. The Black Cats head into the match with the lack of confidence and they are unlikely to put an end to their three-game losing run in all competitions.
