Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction

It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that the Citizens are in a must win situation after their slip-up against Leicester on home turf, if they plan to fulfil their title dream. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur are coming to town, a team that has been in an incredible form of late, and they are not prepared to give up their second place without a fight.

The Citizens now chase from the rear of the pack

A heavy loss against Leicester City in the previous round of the league (3-1) pushed Manuel Pellegrini’s charges down to the 4th place in the table. City hoped to pull level with the red-hot Foxes in the overall standings, but Robert Huth’s brace and another astonishing performance by Riyad Mahrez secured a rather large six-point advantage for Claudio Ranieri’s charges. Still, the Citizens are not without chances, but need to secure points, starting from their clash against the Spurs, and hope that Leicester and Tottenham will make a mistake. Pellegrini will rely on his star attacker, Sergio Aguero, who has been scoring for fun of late. He will have the utmost support from the youngster Kelechi Iheanacho, who will most certainly be given a chance in the forthcoming high-profile match. If we add the fact that Manchester City failed to score only once in their last thirty fixtures at Etihad, chances are they will continue the positive trend.

The Citizens will be without the likes of Eliaquim Mangala (hamstring), Wilfried Bony (muscle strain), Vincent Kompany (muscle strain), Jesus Navas (hamstring), Kevin De Bruyne (ACL), and Sammir Nasri (hamstring), who are all in the recovery room.

Pochettino believes his team can conquer the Premier League

No one could even dream when the season started that Tottenham could become serious tittle challengers. Mauricio Pochettino transformed the Spurs into a killing-machine, capable of defeating any opponent. The best proof for such a statement is their six-game winning streak. The Spurs are on fire, mostly thanks to Harry Kane (15) and Dele Alli (7) who present a constant threat to opposition defenders. Also, it has to be noted that the White Hart Lane outfit boast a 6-5-1 record on their travels this term, losing their last away match in the Premier League in August. Additionally, that was the only game they failed to score a goal when playing on the road. These facts lead me to a conclusion they will be efficient this time out and will create a number of problems to Pellegrini’s drafty defense.

Tottenham Hotspur does not have any fresh injury nor suspension concerns, and Mauricio Pochettino will have almost the entire team at his disposal, since Clinton N’Jie is the only player injured.

Quick Facts

  • The Citizens recorded a single home defeat in their last nine fixtures at Etihad (W7 D1)
  • Manuel Pellegrini’s charges failed to net a goal only once in their last thirty home matches
  • Manchester City are on a five-game winning run against the Spurs on home turf
  • The Spurs scored at least a goal in sixteen consecutive meetings on their travels
  • Tottenham recorded six straight triumphs in all competitions

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur betting tip

Taking under consideration the current form of both teams, I would not dare to pick a shure winner in this top of the table encounter, since the game could easily go either way. The only obvious fact is that we will witness goals, if the Citizens and the Spurs continue their goal-scoring run. This is why I reckon we will se a lot of fireworks this Sunday afternoon.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.75 (3/4) @BetVictor
